Cleaning the carbs?
Where I work, acetone and alcohol are used as cleaning agents, I have seen first hand what acetone does to plastics,it will haze and eat into lexan instantly, turns most types of gloves into sticky mush after a minute or so, and make plastics very brittle, as it dries them out quickly.Pure latex will last a while, and we have certain plastic bottles that can hold acetone, so it won't eat all plastics. I agree, certain substances won't react as much,or not at all, and I can't say for sure what types are used in a carb, since it stands up to gas, they are probably tougher than most plastics. I'm just saying I wouldn't soak the parts a real long time in case they aren't as resistant as other substances.

Cleaning the carbs?
I've gotten brake clean on some plastic parts and after about 15 mins. they self destructed, just cracked up by themselves and fell apart as soon as I touched them.
I would avoid getting either one on plastic or rubber.
When using cleaner on carbs you should disassemble them, it's the best way to clean them anyway.
Alien you might want to check your needle valve also and make sure it's not turning to mush or made it hard as a rock.
