Default 2004 Grizzly Makes a Clunk Clunk noise in the front end.

I recently purchased a 2004 Grizzly and so far it's been a great machine. When I'm crusing down a trail and let off the gas, it some times makes a clunk clunk noise in the front end. I've noticed it only does it in 2 wheel drive. Any one have a clue what this is and if it's normal? Also in deep water (just over the seat)the belt gets wet and the engine drowns out. Anyone know where I can get a snorkle kit for it? I'm not sure why the engine stalls, when I open the air cleaner it's dry...can anyone explain this? I've noticed if I drain the carb bowl it will start right up and run, does anyone think this is related to the vapor lock issue with Grizzly's? Any input is greatly appreciated.

That doesn't sound normal to me. it sounds like its not quite getting all the way out of four-wheel drive. Stop before changing it don't do it on the fly and see how that works out for ya. if it doesn't get better than i would take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix the problem.

The air intake is located under the seat and when you drive in water that deep it fills the carb and that is why it cuts out. If you have had water in you carb bowl it will need to be removed to clean out trapped water.

Also if the water reaches the front or rear deck lids (hoods) water can enter the v-belt cooling ducts and fill the v-belt case. If this happens the primary and secondary sheaves need to be cleaned and regreased and crankcase covers #2 & #3 will need to be removed and cleaned to release the trapped water inside.

If you have drained amounts of water from your v-belt case and do not disassemble it and clean it out properly it may become an expensive problem to repair down the road. For example, if the water was dirty or contaminated it could and most likely would ruin the sheaves.

Have you checked you oil? There is a chance you have water in it from the crankcase breather hose located around seat level.

The front differential gear and the rear final drive may also have water in them as the breather hoses for both are also located at or around seat level.

If you call your dealer and let them know the water depth that you were in I am positive they will give you some recommendations about needed maintenance.

You may also want to read the owners manual and or search under "grizzly & water" on this forum. Please post back with what you find.
