Not worth the risk in my opinion. It might be okay, it might not. The person fixing my rod/crank said it was a mechanical failure of the rod. FYI

NO problems here with my stock bore!!!
Harv you need to switch pipes before you think about doing ANYTHING else with your bike!!! hahahah JK man!

Going to the 686 has not change my reliability. I have broke numerous parts but most was from doing R@D. I had one set of rings for 1 1/2 years and they were still good when i replaced them. The piston was doing great. The landings in the piston were not showing any wear, the rod has held up great so far. A little slight galling on the lower left side where the pin goes thru. (99 percent that i have seen have the same thing). The aftermarket cams hold up fine. The rocker arms are showing a little wear after 2 years. (the stock motor would show the same)

If you maintain your 102 mm bore it should wear as well as the stocker. My 686 will out last some stockers the way some guys maintain them.

Change the oil often, adjust the valves and warm it up proper and it will last a long time.
