Recreation Version of the YFZ??????
#1
October ATV Action page 89: "The only thing you can't add is reverse, and we look forward to Yamaha working that into a recreation version of this machine." A WFR version of the YFZ????
Makes sense. If you have a great engine, use it in as many applications as possible.

I think that's wishful thinking on ATV Action's part. Yamaha knew going in, and admitted as much, that only a tiny fraction of the YFZ's sold would be used in actual racing, hence the lights, parking brake and other non-racing essentials.
There's really nothing much they could do to make it more trail-friendly other than adding reverse and softer suspension. The differences between the YZ and WR dirtbikes is enough to warrant two machines, but it wouldn't be a wise business move to just put reverse on the YFZ (which would require new cases, which would require new tooling at the factory) and market it as another quad.

mine came with reverse too...they say to engage it you turn the bars full lock to one side, and use generous portions of throttle to break the rear tires free, and it should turn itself around.

You all seem to have focused on the reverse thing, but that was never the intention of the post at all. [Just for the record though, I personally think reverse is something you can live without on a light sport bike. But, the Z400 for instance gives you reverse at no extra weight penalty (compared to the 400EX), so in that case you can have your cake and eat it too!]
Anyway, the YFZ (like the YZ dirt bike) seems to be a machine best adated to MX or the trail. I was thinking more in terms of another bike with the same engine, but a chassis more adapted to all around riding. Kind of like what the WR is compared to the YZ. Good oppertunity for Yamaha to retire that old Warrior!
