Default YFZ 450 Sticky Shifting...

I have the same problem with mine. I'm going to take it in after I get back from the dunes this weekend. Hopefully they will fix it.

mine sticks going from second to third. Seems to only do it when im drag racing someone. Im not sure if its just my boot holding the clutch lever up while in second or if its the quad. Im going to have to play around with it this weekend and see what happens.

Mine happens from first to second. It only happens when I'm riding slow or cruising. When I drag race or accelerate quickly, it never happens.

Mine only does it when I go slow as well, so I dont go slow anymore, but when on the throttle its as smooth and precise as a tranny gets.

Default YFZ 450 Sticky Shifting...

Update: I got the YFZ back late last week. Everything was covered under warranty. So far I have only been able to make a couple runs up and down the street on it. Everything seems okay, but I'll have to put some more time on it to get a better feel. That might not be untill Turkey Day weekend though.

What parts ended up bieng replaced..sounds like you had a worthy dealership that took care of you...however I'd say most will just stick thier head in the ground and pretend not to see the problem...knowing what parts you had replaced could help someone take care of Yamaha's "hurried errors"

RacinJason: It turned out to be the"Shifting Pawl Limiter Plate". They replaced that and did the standard free oil change. The service dude showed me the part. It's esentailly a shaft with a bracket on one end. My guess: Possibly some are welded up when the bracket isn't square to the shaft??? If a gig is involved, maybe the tolerances are out?

Final Update/Testing:

Took the YFZ down to Pismo over Thanksgiving day weekend to run it around and see how the repairs went. Everything seemed to work just fine. We, never once experienced the sticky gear box problem. So, it seems the dealer fixed the problem... Yeah!!!
