Why would I buy...
an 04 Kodiak 450 instead of a Griz??? Everyone happy with their 450 or are they sorry they did not get the Griz? And for that matter, I would love to hear from someone who doesn't want their Griz anymore, but now wants a 450...like why?
I am undecided btwn these two, but it will definitely be one or the other. Here's what I am looking for: one that I can take hunting once or twice a year and it will not let me down if I need to drag a big game animal out. I also want one that is not all utility, but also a little bit of fun. I think I am leaning towards the Kodiak, but I want to make sure that whatever I get, I am not going to be wishing I had gotten something else. Kodiak plusses include size, nimbleness, lower center of gravity(good for fun in the corners), $1000 less than the Griz, fast enough for me, better gas mileage than a big bore. The main Grizzly attraction is more power, but I question if I would ever actually even need it. Plus, I see a lot more Grizzlys for sale on Ebay and stuff than Kodiak 450s. Heck, I can't even find one of those to test ride. I know the Griz is great; I guess I am just wondering if a Kodiak is enough. Like the song says, "It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you have. Sorry I'm so pathetically undecided. Somebody help! Thanks

i have an 03 grizz red and love it. but i weigh in at 300lbs and needed the extra ooomph. my inlaws have 2 kodiak 450's and 400's and they took me whereever i wanted to go but just seemed to small for me. one suggestion though is to get wider tires mine has 250 miles on it and i put itp mudlites and it is now much better mudder. i hated the dunlops. my mudlites are 26x10-12 front and 26x12-12 rear well worth the extra bucks. i'm also new to the forum.

I'll go on a limb here and say get the Kodiak - I'll get harassed about it but what's new?
Reasons:
Lighter - it might leave the ground sometimes, or even lift the front end when you need to - + for fun factor
****cornering and braking will both be improved by lower weight
****difference between power and weight might be close to keep ratios similar - you won't have the same amount of torque but like you said, do you really need it? condsider this - 5 years ago a 450 WAS a big bore - what are we doing differently now than we were doing then that requires this extra power? I certainly dunno but I do the same things on my ATV's as everyone was doing 15 years ago
Suspension -solid rear means it might actually corner, less body roll - big + to fun factor
*****solid rear will be better for safe jump landings - + to safety factor
Price - that $1000 you save could probably get you the same power as a stock griz if that was a concern later on
IMO .... light and stable (think fun!) is more important than brute power - that's why I have a Wolverine not a tank
Good luck with your decision!
