I've already replied, but here's one more...
Long before dirtbikes and atvs I rode mountain bikes - real hard. I did not wear a helmet. One year I spent some "big" dough on a sweet bike and figured I would take my riding to the next level. I also figured that for once I ought to consider wearing a helmet.
Got the helmet and the first ride of the year was coming around a corner and got my front wheel stuck in a crack between the curb and asphault. My helmet hit the top corner of the curb hard but I was fine. I figured I had learned my lesson and have never gone w/o once since regardless of which bike I'm riding.

briansgi- you cannonfail/cracknfail owners are getting testy now that some sweatshop in china has the drawings and details of your prized quad. It is truly a collectors item since you can find any suckers to buy them. I do not see a problem with my original post on the 12 year old. I copy and pasted it for you to pick apart with your superior intelligence. Your wisdom is far greater than the 55 people that replied to that thread with over 500 views.
Do you let your kids ride there quads without supervision? My son just turned 12 and wants to go ride with his friends (12 and 13 years old) There is 100 acres at the house with trails and creeks running thru the property. I am against it myself. Not because i do not trust him, but because i do not know the kids he is riding with. They ride there quads on the road and thru back trails to get to our house. Is 12 years old to young to let go unsupervised????
Being as how you have zero clues about my property, you must be physic or .... We know you have acannonfail so it must be the latter. LMAO I thought the idea of forums was to ask questions and exchange views and ideas. I guess from now on i will run my questions by you first. NOT!!!!!
The original post on the helmets was just a question i post. I see riders all the time without helmets on and just wanted to hear some thought on it.
Take a prozaic and repeat this 100 times. I love my cannanfail, it is the best. I love my cannonfail, it is the best. I love my cannonfail it is the best, I love my cannonfail, it is the best. ...... then see if it has a bad battery, locked up motor, oil in the frame rails, stripped oil plug/tranny plug......LOL
No one said you have to read it or REPLY if you think it is stupid. This thread has more post and views than any in a long time. Must have sparked a little intrest cause 200 of them have not said it was a stupid post. I may hang out in the cannonfail forum for a few days and get depressed with the rest of 4500 guys/gals that bought them.

14mins, I feel for you on the decision about the kids riding alone. It is a hard one... and I am sure the kids will howl if you say no... but all I can offer is this... who is the adult? It is YOUR decision, not theirs. do what you think you can live with considering the possible consequences.
On the flip side, when I think about the experiences I lived through when I was 12... man it is a wonder I am still alive. I'd have wore my oldest boy out if he had pulled the same types of stunts... and I am sure he pulled a lot of them that I don't want to know about either... but I think we are a better educated and much more cautious society these days.
As someone who grew up without constant supervision...oh hell.. I'll say it.. the parents did not give a $#!^, I vowed that things would be different when I was a parent. Call me protective... selfish.. doesn't matter. I am able to see my children every day, they get around normally without using a wheel chair, I don't have to wipe drool off their face either.. so I guess I can live with being the bad guy once in a while.
You might be able to turn this around... if you ride with them and show some interest, you might become the coolest father in the area too....
Either way, count yourself lucky to have an area that large to ride on to keep the family close to home.

Me again... Hey, I just had a thought... I am sure that a majority of riders out there that have commented on this thread probably have more than one helmet laying around the house. Why not carry a spare with you and give it to the next person you se without one... do it on the friendly... let them know you care about them... You never know, you just might save a life.
I was out at the local dealers the other day and watched a kid and his dad go through the process of buying a new dirt bike. By the sounds of it, it must have been the first one that they had ever had. After the purchase, the kid wanted to show his dad the cool helmets they had on the display. The dad refused to look at them because he said he didn't have the money for one. Now why buy a kid a dirt bike without having a hundred bucks to get him a helmet? Something wrong there....
Any way I told the kid to pick one out and dropped the plastic on the counter.... the kid was exstatic.. the dad a little embarassed, but I figure the kid deserved the best chance he could have in staying alive.
I told the dealer to let me know if he ever ran into another case where a buyer couldn't afford a helmet for their child... and I'd pay him for it. Just tell them it came in the deal... I sure hope those of us that are so adamant are willing to go the extra mile and put our money where our mouth is.
