Hummm this is a hard one--! I like the torque of a 4 stroke, but i also like the crazy power band of a 2...
Since my next toy is going to be a rappy, i would say 4!! or you could have both..like i do...lol

MY dad absolutely hates 2 strokes, hes about 3 or 4 throughout his whole life and hes ALWAYS had problems with it and he doesnt drive them like an idiot, plus if u sit a 2 by a 4, rev them both it sounds like the 4 is gonna eat it alive, which it prolly wont but its definitely better in trailing etc. you cant just rip through gears in a bush

After riding both for years, I can't see how anyone would choose a 4 stroke over a 2 stroke. 1-2 strokes require half the displacement too put out the same power.
2-In todays sound requirement society a 2 stroke puts out less noise when maintained properly.
3-With todays modern 2 stroke oil, rebuilds are almost on par with a 4 stroke.
4-Rebuilds are almost too easy compared too a 4 stroke....and cheaper.
5-A 2 stroke is 10X easier too work on.
6-More power is easily available once stock gets boring with a 2 stroke.
7-Less internal parts too break / wear out.
8-No crankcase contaminants are floating around in your cylinder oil (exception too the rule is the new Honda sport racer).
The ONLY downside too owning a 2 stroke is premixing. Also, all 2 strokes do not have lightswitch-on-off power.

I see where you are comming from but I think you left out a couple on the down side of the 2-stroke. I've owned nothing but 2-strokes until this year and I love the raw power band but.....
With a 2-stroke I can't just stop in somewhere off the trial and fill er up...gotta mix that oil.
The enviros in our area have made the newer 2-strokes strictly "red sticker" bikes which, for us, means we can't ride them just anywhere and where we can ride them we typically can ONLY ride them during certain months of the year...THAT SUCKS!
True they aren't as loud as 4-strokes when measuring decibles but they have a much higher pitch which can be more irritating for those that don't like off-roaders in general.
I personally love the smell of that blue smoke coming out of the exhaust but not everyone does and it gives the enviros more reason to hate them.
I have no more problem working on my 4-strokes than any 2-stroke I ever owned but you are right....2-strokes are much cheaper.
Anyway, just my $0.02.

I hear you Just4Kicks, mixing gas is a drag.
I love the simplicity of my raptor, but I have a cr 125 and my daughter has a cr 80.
When we trail ride, (mostly long hils, not to steep) it's tough to keep 'em cleaned out.
You can't just putt around, need to be rev'in all the time.
However, nothing like the pull when you hit the powerband!
2 or 4?Don't care, just as long as I'm riding one of them!
