Default YFZ450 Front Shocks on Raptor.

For anyone who cares. We tried this today. And it is a big improvement over stock raptor shocks. I was jumping alot farther than normal and the landings were way, way less felt. So for anyone wanting a cheaper alternative to a softer jump feel, IMO this works. It also felt good running around on fast turns and bumps. Not the greatest by no means, but a hell of alot better. You couldn't pull me off that quad, and I hated to go back the the stocker. I can still feel the airtime.

The top shock mounts are a litle closer on the raptor which would make the yfz shocks softer on the raptor than they are on the yfz(nice to have adjustable compression and rebound).Any thing is a improvement over the stock raptor shocks for big jumps.I was going to pull the elkas off my raptor before I sold it but i think the stiffness of the yfz shocks helps to keep it flatter in the corners than the elkas would.Elkas were alot plusher though.

Did you have to revalve them for the extra weight that the Raptor has

What do you mean that they were closer together? Do you mean that the mounts on the raptor are closer together than they are on the yfz, wouldnt that make it stiffer, not softer? What did it do to the ride hight, lower, raise??

Yes the mounts on the raptor are closer where the top shocks mounts ,this makes it softer(more leverage against the shock).I dont have my raptor any more to measure but im pretty shure the yfz shocks are a hair shorter than the raptor shocks,so that would make the raptor sit a little lower with the yfz shocks bolted on it.My yfz shocks measure 15 3/4 center to center.

Well the Raptor seems to "sit" lower with the yfz shocks. But compared to another Raptor don't look any different. I had to shave the top mount on the Raptor flat to take the shock. And had to shave a little on the bottom of the shock to fit. We didn't revalve them due to its $250 a shock. Not worth it. Plus the shock isn't near that good to have revalved. Go buy elkas then.

I was hoping to have elka fronts by the end of the year (04), I think that elka said they were around 850 or something, who else sells them from a good price?

Did you guys try the rear shok as well. Also, did the Raptor have stock a-arms or extended.

Stock A-Arms. We left the stock raptor rear shock in. And you could feel that when landing, but wasn't that bad. He plans on putting extended a-arms and elka's on next year.
