Default Please help with crazy raptor problem!!!!!.............

whats up, i used to cruise these forums but havent been on in about 8 month. i got a weird raptor problem that is driving me crazy. ok here it goes.

put on the dynojet kit and procircuit t4 pipe and head pipe. i started the quad after the jet kit install with the stock headpipe on. The idle was fine. As soon as i the throttle the thing starts missing and blowing out flames the the tailpipe. It wont even rev up 200 rpms(or so). just bat bat bat boom and another flame.
so anyway, after hours of looking for some reason i reved it when the bars were cut all the way and locked to the left and boom revs fine. then i turn the bars back to the right a hair and back to the problems. The engine is also getting very hot very quick. Another weird thing is that i can click the bike into reverse without turning the ****. What the heck is going on here!!! please feel free to ask questions. i dont wanna pull all my hair out. Btw i installed a aftermarket headpipe and its still doing the same thing. i also tried manually giving it throttle by means of the cable, same thing. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it an 01 ? If so, it might be related to the choke. The 01 cables allow water to enter the choke plunger and corrode leaving it constatly ON = rich. Moving the bars might be letting the plunger move a bit. Mine corroded and got stuck full ON - ran real rich but not as weird as yours. Look under the controls to see if the cable is retracting.

I dont know if you are rich or lean?

Just a thought ?? Something to check.

If you haven't removed the parking brake, I'd also look for a short in the wires that lead to the parking brake on the handlebar. If one of the wires is shorting, turning the bars may move it enough that it doesn't short. The parking brake will kick in the rev limiter and you won't be able to rev much past idle. If your quad will shift into Reverse without turning the ****, the Reverse cable that runs from the **** to the lever under the engine on the same side as the rear brake is too tight.

Choke: Any corrosion in there ? If it's clean it's probably OK. If it's all junked up around the plunger - maybe a problem.

i'm betting it's the rev limter-thing-a-ma-bob thats connects to the parking break...you should get rid of that crap. buy yourself a clutch perch for a yz400 and and rear brake block-off plate and replace the stock perch. this eliminates your parking break cable, and a couple of wireharness for the parking break.

im betting your problem is with the one of those harnesses. i would first follow the two harnesses coming from your perch. follow them down until you get behind the radiator. look for the connections where they ty-into the main harness. check those connections. take them apart and get some di-electric grease in there and re-connect. if you were eliminating the stock perch and e-brake. you would just disconnect the harnesses there. plugging the two butt-connectors into themselves and leaving the other one disconnected.

if you rolled you quad you may have cracked the harness where it meets the perch (look closely).

try this, fire up the quad and give it a little gas while jiggling the harnesses around.

good luck

i started to move the wires around after its fired up but does nothing now. It now doesnt even rev up with the bars turned all the way. The choke does work, i tried it while it was running.
i am going to go nuts, i just want to rip it, i am jonesin. i did some 3rd gear endos(i can get it moving with barley touching the throttle) hoping it would shake something but it didnt

Is there slack in the cable when you push the lever back? Is your reverse light on?
