After 01, Yamaha put a reverse rev limiter in the Raptor. You can't rev it up in reverse by design, there is nothing wrong with your quad. If you want to get rid of the reverse rev limiter, there are a couple of ways to do it. The easiest is to ground the green/white wire under the front sprocket but this keeps your reverse light from working. There are kits that include a switch to bypass the reverse rev limiter but still allow the reverse light to work.

I got a override ,kit including switch, from ebay for like $15 and it works great. Go to raptortranny.com and check out the reverse rev limiter link at the bottom of the page.
