Hmm,In my opinion its how busy they are...
My Quad is completly road legal,so no worries.
I didnt know a motorcycle-cop was following me when I powerslid around a round-about,he just came up side me and gave me the "calm down" sign with his hand...On the other hand it might be because he was a little scared,all the big cheese "mafia" and "dealers" ride 660R's around here.

stop and talk to 'em (good friends with local cops)... some have actually wanted to ride it so i let em...

 

If I see the cops on my quad......I say, " what the f*ck are you doing on my quad???"

 

If I see the them in the distance, i'll just pull into a driveway or dip into the woods or a field but if they come out of nowhere, i just stop and they give me a warning.

 

I stop and say "Hi"
This is because I only ride where I'm supposed to and behave myself.

When you ride where you shouldn't you are making things worse for all of us.

Next time, stop and say "Hi" ask if they know any good places to ride.

Nothing keeps you out of trouble like being on good terms with the cops to start with.

 

sometimes i ride up to my mailbox. they think it is a county road. it is not. if they stop me. i stop and be polite. I'm not worried about them, they dont scare me. I cant run cuz they know where i live and theyll be sitting in front of my house when i come back. I've had a couple cornholes try and give me the 3rd degree for going up to get my mail, and I yessir,yessir them. the older cops usually just wave! hehe this whole area is loaded with bikes, quads, and snowmobiles. you should see the rookies try and catch a snowmobile! what idiots! Saw a guy take out about 100 yards of barbed wire fence one time.... with a patrol car! LOL all kinds of damage, and for what? the guy was riding a snow covered road, fully equipped and safely. shows ya what the cop knows....under certain conditions, it is legal here, for quads too.
I never run away from them - they have that predator/prey instinct you see - if you run, you are guilty of something. Like I said, just yessir, yessir them and dont give em any lip and youll prob be OK. at least in this state they cant arrest you or seize your quad for riding on the road: they can cite ya though, and make ya push the thing home.

When I see a cop I look at them while they're driving by and try to make eye contact and wave to them politly. 90% of the time by doing this little gesture they will wave back and keep on driving even if you happen to be doing something a tad unlawful. But if it's a cop that I don't know, and they turn around I'm looking for the nearest quad trail the hell otta there!

 

I'm not usually on the road but I would probably run from them. I don't care.
