Noise in Raptor engine???
I understand adjusting the valves is something the average owner (me) would probably find difficlut.
I really don't want to do this unless it will damage the engine if I don't.
I have zero confidence in my dealer and can almost guarantee they would not cover ir under warranty.
Should I ride it longer and see if the noise goes away or I am I taking too big a chance of causing damage?

If your a mechanical kind of guy at all, adjusting the valves is simple. DO you have the service manual?? That and a 10 buck set of feeler gauges is all you need.
If it is a serious noise don't ride it till you solve the problem, if it's a "little" ticking noise it's probably OK.
AFter the first ten or twenty hours you really do need to either service it yourself or pay somebody to do it. the First service oil change and valve adjutment is important and a basic check of a few components and tightening this and that can really save you some greif down the road.
IF your the kind of guy that can change his own oil in his car or truck then with the service manual and some basic tools, you can do everything you need. But if your the kind of guy that doesn't work on his own stuff ever, well then pony up the money to get bothquads serviced, then your done for another 100 plus hours, unless you wnat to be like most people and change their own oil and filter every 20-30 hours.
Hey man you spent over 11 or 12 thousand bucks on two quads, don't cheap out now.

Manual = Free in my signatures website.
Microfiche for part #'s = Free in my signatures website.
Feeler guage = Free if you already have one a few bucks if not.
Step by step instructions with pictures on how to adjust the valves = Free at www.raptortranny.com
It's very easy to do and will save you about $100 that the dealer will charge you for each quad.

wshrdskin, thanks for the manual. I remembered a long time ago, like a year or so, someone had posted it on the forum. I was actually looking for it today on some of my old backup cds to find some torque specs and couldnt find it.
EDIT: dang broken fingers make it hard to type, i keep leaving letters out and hitting the wrong keys.

Noise in Raptor engine???
seems to me raptor engines make all kinds of wierd noises hehe. Valve adj is the most common problem. And it's maintenance, so it's not under warranty. I paid 'em the first time cuz the service manager said it was 'bucket and shim' well we all know THAT was BS. havent been back there since, and they know why!!!
thanks wsdrdskin for hanging on to that manual. I have it too, but I dont know how to do a site yet...
valve adjust is easy...just figure a couple hours the first time and take your time. after that, it's really fast!
and it does make a diff in performance too.

Damn bucket and shim. LOL. That's some funny stuff. They wouldn't see me again either.
