Default Fan Disconect switch for deep water?

Has anbody rig a shutoff switch for the fan for deep water crossings? I remeber reading something about this before I had bought a fan cooled model and if I remeber right that when crossing deep water and the fan kicks on the fuse will blow when the fan can not turn in the water.AlaskaBoy.

Take a look at your wiring you should be able to hook up a toggle switch . if theres only 2 wires cut one run one end of it up to your switch and then off the other side of the switch back down to the other end of the cut wire . You will have to be very careful Not to forget and leave it off .

If your quad is submerged in deep water where the radiator and motor is getting cooled from water flowing through it I dought the engine would heat up enough to turn the fan on.

Wistech, I know on long crossings this would not be an issue but in the case of the fan turning on just as you enter is the issue I was wondering about fixing. There is no warning when this is about to happen and I have heard of the problem of blowing fuses and this is the fix I have heard of. I was wondering if anyone had done this and if it was trulely a problem or just one in a million chance? I have only owned aircooled models and this is a new experience. In fact the first trip out with it I got spooked several times while we were stopped and the fan kicked on while it was running.

Outlaw, thanks for the info. I will take a look at today and trace the wiring and see what I can do. I will also remember to turn it back on as if I don't it would be costly. AlaskaBoy.

Well one thing you could do is install a autoresetting curcuit breaker . That way if it did happen to pop it would reset after a few seconds so after you got through the water you didnt have to worry about turning a switch back on . Most autoparts stores have them for a few bucks and they install right in the same fuse connector. I know I would rather go that way then trust myself with a switch and cooking my motor.

you could use a water sensor switch you would need to put it up in a tube and have a vent on the tube . there basicaly a continuity switch and the water makes the circuit
