Have alittle of both worlds and get a Banshee, 250R or other 2stroke quad and enjoy.

I don't really understand what a "modern MX Track" is in your statement. I see more and more tracks going to only tabletops and a few step ups, because of safety and insurance purposes. Like most the national tracks for example, there's very few "technical" MX national tracks, well, at least the ones I've ever ridden on. I expect 99% of tracks to switch to a safer format whithin the next few years, so thats what I call modern, JMO.

And yes, quads would get their @sses handed to them on a supercross track But then again, they are the most technical tracks on earth.
I agree Rid, most of the tracks that I race on that has the 100+ft jumps are usually long table tops! The triples are step ups to camel backs(might as well be a table top) But we do have some jumps that are true triples that goes the distance of 100+, but "most" people in my Pro/AM class do it to so no real big advantage! But most don't! The modern day SX track would consists of 1 thing that makes the quads not fair so well there and thats the amount of track after you rail out of a berm to the following jump whether it be triple double etc., theres just not enough room for the quads to get up to speed quick enough to clear it and on those tracks, mistakes can be VERY painful! But in the outdoor Mx tracks unless they are huge gaps to clear or real long table tops the quads should do very well! But as far as turning the same lap times, I don't know about that and as far as cornering faster on the quad in a bermless corner it all depends on the rider, give me just a little bit of a rut or groove maybe 6-7 inches high that I can ram my rear tire in and I'll rail that corner fast too! But the MAIN difference between the bike and quad on an MX track is the amount of track after a corner to the following jump! Me I can make up alot of that difference also by seat bouncing which I do most of the time! Also alot of people at the track usually "whip it" just showing off, but the people who really know its purpose use it for a reason! They whip it to scrub off speed when they are approaching a jump, that and compressing the shocks right before take off to keep the bike down and slow it some(don't get confuse with compressing the shocks to get lift, hard to explain I'd have to show you, Rid, I'm sure you know what I am referring to) so I can keep the bike lower, the less in the air the faster the lap times will be!!!!!!

Do I think if I had the same skill level on my quad (with it being set up for MX racing) as I do my bike could I hang with the guys I race with on any Mx track that I ride at? IMO, not a chance. I couldnt ever make the jumps I do on my bike! But I've been racing bikes since I was a young buck, the bikes feel normal and natural for me, the quad gives me that unpredictable feeling!

Exactly grizz, the bikes can clear bigger jumps with less run on to them, no doubt about that, and on some tracks, thats essential. I know exactly what ya mean about whipping it to stay low. Unfortunately, you can't do that on a quad. You can whip it, but not on the jump face so it won't really keep ya lower, just look cool.

I'm just the oposite, I've been on a quad since I was 4 years old!!!!, and I absolutely SUCK on a bike. Maybe if a put a thumb throttle on it I would feel comfortable, but I can never get used to a twist. You gotta come up here grizz and do some quad TT racing, and hit a few MX tracks. Since your getting out of racing the bikes competetively, you might as well try some new stuff. I'd like to get in a shifter cart sometime soon as well!! One thing is always constant no matter what you ride, racing is racing, and it's all FUN!!!!!
Monster Mountain Mx track has an HUGE MX track and a trail course as well as a TT track! I've never tried it but would like to!!! I'd have to learn the set-up of the quad for that before I tried to be competitive!! Definately though, I'd absolutely love to come up to Ohio and ride some!! I've passed through their going to Michigan one time to pick up a '70 Blown Chevelle with some of my drag racing addicted friends! Very pretty up there and everyone seemed nice but they all wanted to hear me talk! Said they loved the accent(or making fun of me one, LOL)! Maybe sometime this Summer when I get some free time off from school and work I'll try and make the trip up there!! BUT RID! I'm gonna bring my YFZ and 2 of my bikes! You have to promise to ride one of the YZF's! Also you will have to give me some info on some good places to stay up there! Also, you will have to come down here and ride some of the tracks here!! One has a SX track and 2.5 mile MX track and its absolutely insane fun! Not really technical at all but its the "funnest" track I've ever ridden in a long time! You can stay here at the house! Its on the river so during the summer we can take the boat out and steal the parents Sea-Doos from their place a few miles away! Plus 3 tracks are within 45 min's from here! 1 is like 5 min's away! I'll even set you up with one of them southern bells LOL!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that Ridley, but for some of us a thumb throttle is akward. But WTF,a thumb throttle on a bike? You would look like a wuss, not that I'm tryin to knock you or anything, but I've seen you knock 2 wheeler bretheren in some other threads and come to find out,you can't even ride one.Thats hilarious.

If you can't ride a bike, then you just shouldn't be riding. It takes alot more skill and concentration on a bike.Whereas anybody or there mother can take up quadding. So looks like your just some 4wheeled nobody.

Telico will tell you a bike faster
Ridley will tell you a quad

Telico is a good bike rider and can ride quads
Ridley is a good quad rider but he can't ride a bike for crap

Who is right?
Who cares?

When I had my Raptor, I raced bikes on several ocsasions. My stock raptor in the dirt was just barely faster than a YZ125. When racing a 250 two stroke or four stroke 450, all I could do was dodge roost.

Hey joke, after reading that post, im sorry to say I really do think you are the most ignorant person on the forum. Who are you to judge how someone rides there machine?? When you get together the guy might hand your @$$ anywhere. And none the less, you say this to Ridley? Who by far is one of the smartest guys and the biggest helpers on this forum. I rode dirtbikes all my life, and after riding a quad, I really could give a **** less about bikes right about now, I just like quads more, is that so hard to take in? And what did Ridley do wrong, he wasnt scared to admit, that he just cant ride bikes. If someone rides a quad since the age of 4, and has been on the machine all his life, dont you think it just might be a little stressful learning how to ride a two wheeler, I mean, I already know that im gonna start riding bikes like crap soon, cause I just dont want to ride them anymore. On a track, at sometimes a bike just might take a quad at some times. But does that mean that quads are less fun to ride? I love to jump my quad, and in some terrain, theres areas where a quad will make a bike look just pitiful. Ive had my share of bikes for a couple of years, and I liked it till I rode a quad, then I bought me one. I rode the bike less and less, and when I started to ride sand, I began to not ride the bike at all, and sold it. So here I am now, defending what I love best PS" Ridley, you sound like an awesome and smart rider, would love to meet ya one day and ride with you, so if you are ever in Cali and in the mood for some sand, just shout!! You make it sound as if me and Rid were arguing! Actually like Rid, I agreed with him 100%! Actually we were discussing meeting up and riding and you made it sound as if we were arguing!! Rid don't mind him bro!! Actually, quad racing isnt as easy as you make it out to be, but neither is my bike!! Me on a quad racing against Rid would be a total embarrissment for me as well! I wouldnt be able to keep up if I wanted too!! But that post was to be honest uncalled for! Nobody was arguing, just stating facts on the topic and making some plans to roost one another on the track!!!

BTW, Rid, the 285 is my favorite of the 3, I turn the fastest lap times on most of the tracks on it versus the 450's! Its so much lighter and easier to throw around and the power is so much more useable versus the 450's as well, i can wind some gears out on the 285 where as I stay in one or 2 on the 450's!!!! If you can handle it you can ride it!

Grizz, light is what I want, it won't hurt so bad when it lands on me, lol. Nahh, I always take it pretty easy on other peoples equipment. I think you'll like my YFZ as well
The dunes are eveywhere in Cali. Wherever you want to go, it still isnt that much of a long drive, Dumont, Pismo, and my favorite, Glaims If your going out there, you can meet with everyone. David, Raptor03 (sam) Who is called TheSickOne now DuneMe, RaptorOwner. There all in the local areas of dunes. Sam only lives like 15 minutes away from me.

see I grew up with bikes, had my first one at age 5 "jr50" and sence then I have owned 42 bikes 4 trikes and 6 quads. I have only raced about 100 times or so over 22 yrs. which isn't very much. but the tracks I've been on it seems to me that if a person has equal experiance on both bikes and quads 80% of the time the bike will turn better times. just my opinion...and I feel on tight corners there is no doubt bikes have the advantage. and even if the riders can corner them idenicaly the bike will pull out from the corner very aggresivly. but hey who is to say which is better 2 or 4, hell I wrecked my 2 and stuck the motor in the 4........ride hard be happy.
