Banshee speed

I love the feeling of going full speed on some wide open areas in the dunes, but i wish i could go even faster. i was wondering how extreme i could go with my sprockets and not lose acceleration. i plan on having toomey t-6 pipes and a pro-flow filter so i think itll have the power to pull the higher gearing. i dont want to waste the power with some huge sprockets and end up losing all the drags because i cant get moving, but i would like higher top speed. i was thinking of going from 14 tooth front and 41 tooth rear sprockets to 15 or 16 tooth front and 38 or 39 tooth rears. would my acceleration suffer very badly? would i still have enough power to climb steep dunes? i would compare the results of the 15/16 front and 38/39 rears with the pipes and filter to stock accel, so i dont think its too much to ask that i retain similar accel with increased top speed. also, how fast do you think it would go with a setup like that? thanks.

i just like the feeling. i wouldnt think that changing my gearing would affect my acceleration THAT much, especially if im going to have pipes to give more power to compensate for the acceleration loss. how much faster would i go if i changed just my rear sprocket to a 39?

It effects it alot, I went up 2 teeth in the back this last weekend and it made all the difference in the world! 14/41 is high gearing, if you go up to a 15 countershaft sprocket it's like removing 4 teeth to the back which is a major jump and will most likly ruin your acceleration. My gearing was way to high when I had a 42 tooth sprocket I'd get plenty of speed with that gearing but it takes the bike forever to fully rev out and it bogs wayy to easy. The main thing was I couldn't get the bike to hit the power spot with the higher gearing unless I was on a flatter area.

well how much would going from a 41 rear to a 39 and leaving the front alone AND getting the pipes to make sure i dont lose power and bog easily be? would my top speed go up by like 2 mph or something pathetic or what? i just want to have a top speed edge in drag races, me and my dad race to top end a lot and i want to be able to pass him, right now its neck and neck.

ya, you'd prolly get only a few mph, it will effect your acceleration alot more than your top speed.
Kintama has a point, the best way to know if you have the right gearing is waiting to do it after the mods. I've played with my gearing so much before I finally found out what I like, it's almost as hectic as jetting and makes just as much of a difference in my opinion.
When you get the mods done on your bike it's gonna be ALOT more pipy and you'll notice the higher gearing slowing you up alot more I think because you'll have a weaker bottom end with more of a sudden burst of power. When you have higher gearing that burst of power comes on alot slower and is harder to keep the bike from bogging and putting out the power you need when you want it. Also you'll notice when you get in the top end and have high gearing sometimes the engine cant pull that gearing past a certain point and you can't get that extra speed anyways. You have to keep the gearing in proportion with the amount of power your producing. To high and your gears rev slower and sometimes wont top out, to low and it revs very fast, tops out fast, and wont get speed when you want it (like climbing a hill) and just spin till your stuck.

If you save up you and plan before you buy you could get both, acceleration and top speed by getting that baby ported, this will allow the motor to rev out about 1 to 2 thousand more RPM's which will give you alot more top end with your current gearing and not have lost any acceleration, but opt not to go with a T6 if you go that route and look at either T5 or CPI pipes so you do it right the first time. Good Luck.

Here Ladies.
Try this. You can choose other bikes below. Now let the top speed bs end.
