Banshee Long Rod tips

Default Banshee Long Rod tips

It's time to rebuild. Are there any draw backs to the long rod set up? I intend to go with the wiseco crankshaft and long rods with a set of 795 pistons. What will this do to my compression? I still want to run pump gas (91). My existing head has a mild mill job, will that put me over? Lastly, is a weld job on the new crank a must?

If the pistons makes up for the rod length with a shorter pin to crown distance then shouldnt it be the same as it was before?... Im assuming thats what that particular pistons does right?

All of the Wiesco long rod cranks are factory welded. This includes the stock stroke and +4 cranks.

The 795 pistons have a 5mm raised pin height to compensate for the long rod. Basically, prior to last year when they started making the 795's, people used blaster pistons which have the 5mm higher pin. Problems with this include: Stock blaster pistons are 66mm which is .080" overbore for a banshee. So you had to bore your cylinders to 80 to run the pistons. Also, the angle on the dome of a blaster piston is 9 degreees whereas a banshee is 12. This means you had to modify your head to 9 degrees. The 795's take care of these problems.

The pin location is moved up the piston. The benefits of a longer rod are less piston side load and more dwell time at TDC. Whats that mean? Less friction and a more explosive compression stroke..[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]. Rod stroke ratio is particularly key when building a high rpm engine....due too less side load and friction, the rod / stroke ratio is better + more reliable. Hope this clears some things up.
