Default Raptor vs. New 450's??

Has anyone actually taken a raptor with a low-mid pipe and K&N filter and put it up against one of the new 450's for an acceleration test with comparably sized riders? I'm not so concerned with top speed, but acceleration mostly from 0-40mph. Anyone?

I raced a stock yfz and beat him 2 of 2 times in a 200ft hill climb. My rap had a ct pipe and filter at the time. My cousin has a banshee with fmf pipes and he beat the yfz 2 of 3 times. It was a very close race every time.

So would be safe to say that if I want to mod one or the other, I'd be better off going with the Raptor, because it has that much more potential?

the yfz gains a lot with mods as well. up to 10 for a pipe and filter, and you have the free cam mod availible too. With that setup you should beat just about all of the piped raptors. If you put a cam and piston into the raptor, you should get back on top. It really depends on what kind of riding you want to do. If you are looking to beat others in acceleration without putting in too much time or money, the yfz is your choice. If you dont mind putting a little into the engine, you will get more out of a raptor. Most people dont like to get too deep into the bike because of the cost and degrading reliability. That said the yfz is faster with bolt ons.

I don't want to decrease the reliabilty, that's for sure. So, are you saying that any of these discussed mods will decrease reliability?

for you get the rapy and dis is coming from a yfz owner....u neeed to have a lot of experaince and a hard A$$ to ride the yfz all day on them trials. Although i have betten the Shyt out of raptors ont he trail (even a 720cc raptor) with my yfz witslip on...i have to say gett the rapy. That is ment for the trail and the yfz is ment for racing.

1) How can the stock 450's be faster (I'm looking for acceleration and not top speed) than a stock 660?

2) If they are indeed faster in acceleration than the 660, why is that?

3) Can you lighten the flywheel on the 660 to make it rev quicker?

4) I'm assuming the Rev limit on the new 450's are higher, so what prevents someone from buying something to increase the rev limit on the Raptor? Wouldn't this make the Raptor faster top speed then?

I'm looking for the best all around trail quad, when properly equipped. I'm going to get full skids, smaller front sprocket, possibly a larger rear sprocket, and from there, I'm not really sure. I want to be able to lug around at very slow speeds, but also when I get into the throttle from a stop, I want my acceleration to be extremely fast from 0-40 mph, since most of my riding is below those speeds. I know the suspension on the 450's are better, but I'm okay with the stock front suspension on the Raptor, I guess. I'm 230 lbs, and I'm used to 2 stroke dirtbikes with hard hitting powerbands, and I know it's extremely hard to mimick anything like that on a 4-stroke. But, I've also heard the 450's are as close as your can get to a 2-stroke feel, right? So, what did they do to make them feel that way that I can easily do to the Raptor and make it that much better than the 450's?

Sorry, missed the reply to my last post. If you lighten the flywheel, you will lose some of the bottom end torque. Isn't the bottom end torque what we all love about the Raptor? The heavier the rotating assembly, the more torque you will have at hand. It's the reason most people build strokers- they love the torque. I added a 400 crank to my underpowered chevy 350 and punched it .030 over ( 383) and the torque curve increased to 425 ft lbs and and around 400 hp. I figured the motor in stock form was pumping out at least 280 hp and maybe 300 ft lbs of torque.
