the first time i think i paid 1700$ for 12:1 102 mm piston , bore cylinder, hot cam stage 2 and kibble white springs , had new fearra how ever u spell it valves with craycraft port and polish. That time my friend who is a certified mechanic put my piston in backwards and i found out too late. So i got a new sleeve and piston for like 400 and and had to get another head but couldnt afford to get the valves and port job again. Then after about two weeks the motor blew again . this time it was the rod, which could be because of not changing it the first time. But other people have had rod trouble too.

I think you've had the worst luck in the world. All your expenses should be paid by the dufus that put your piston in backwards. My '01 Raptor survived the 12:1 686 transformation nicely. The only hitch was it ate a couple clutches so I replaced the basket with a hinson and the base gasket and countershaft seal blew because some dolt (me) overfilled the oil. I'm still on the stock tranny too..... almost forgot the first thing that'll die on a 686 is the starter oneway. Replace it as part of the build with a LA design and you wont have that trouble. It should be part of the builders kit for the 686/727s.

I have a ported head and hotcams stage 2 as well as 12:1 102mm JE piston and kibblewhite springs, and FCRs. Yup alot of dough. Did the assembly at home to save a couple bucks. My dyno sheet is in my photo gallery here 58RWHP. Not as impressive as some claim but pretty dang fast to me.

Is ther a different type of oil that you use? You have a nice set up i might copy it lol What kind of riding do you do? Last ? Hoy do you like that sparks pipe? i might get one!!!!!!!!

I simply had the cylinder bored by a local shop and did all the teardown/reassembly myself. It'll save you a couple hundred bucks. I run normal Yamalube and Unocal 110 octane gas at about $5 per gallon. It sounds like alot but if I spend a whopping $30 on fuel for a nice ride trip it's really not that drastic. Heck regular runs a bit under $2 per gallon and isnt nearly as much fun to burn up.
Lessee: FCRs $750, Sparks X6 $590, Piston $200, cam $125, springs $160, porting $375, gaskets $60. I think thats most of it. Damn that was expensive....

Hey Mr45auto are those prices installed or not? Did you ever have the stock motor work and just the pipe? how did it feel? Lets say you are me would you wait till next christmas and save up $$$$ about 2 grand and replace the tranny to the 02 conversions or not? I am still on the 01 tranny and i would probably need new valve springs also!!!!! -Matt-

Prices installed? Did the labor myself, so yes installed....by ME. Yes, I did run the pipe with no other mods but jetting and it felt torquier than stock as well as a bit better top end. Not a huge difference in speed but more rideable power. If you want to go cheap I'd just get a 102mm piston and hotcams stage 1. You wont need porting to see benefits and it'll only cost you about $450 when all is done. I'm sure someone here is running that setup and could advise you on gains.

The 11:1 102mm and hotcam stage 1 with pipe and proper jetting should flat out spank a piped Raptor. I'd imagine most mild Banshees would be hard pressed to beat you but ported tricked out Shees as well as most other 686's will put a hurtin on ya.
