Weak Battery?
#1
I have been working on my buddies quad( Suzuki quadrunner), I know this is Yamaha country but I ride Yamaha and the answers come quicker here. So this is the deal, the quad will not start with the starter even though I can hear it turning over but when I pull start it she fires right up. Is it possible the battery is not charged enough to give the starter enough electricity to turn it over fast enough( 3 times in the same sentence must be a record) to start? My friend will run the starter for 5 minutes (because he will not fix the choke cable to work and I do not mind helping him but there is some things he can do on his own) non stop, will this cause the starter motor to not work as it should? Sounds funny but it is bugging me. AlaskaBoy.

Starter wont last long, if he keeps spinning it for 5 minutes at a shot. Tell him those starters are about 320 a piece to replace. Check for spark , when you use the starter and when you use the pull start. Hook up a volt meter, accross the battery, and watch the voltage while cranking...I cant believe itd be below 10 volts, but if it is, it needs to be load tested.
If he wont fix the choke, tell him to put a piece of duct tape over 7/8 of the snrokle opening, thatll help it start faster. Then remove it after its warmed up.
