Also make sure you are checking the chain with somebody your weight sitting on the bike.
The shape of the plstic ring that retains the grease is the differance between "X" and "O" ring chains. The o rings are "O" shaped and the "X" rings are still in a circle around the roller, but it cut it in half and looked at a cross section it would be in an "X" shape. Supposedly it helps retain the lube in better.
