Default banshee rear shock removal

I am in the process of replacing my rear shock spring with a new one from Eibach and I was wanting to know when removing the shock do I have to remove the shock linkage on the bottom of the shock or can I remove it from the bike with the linkage still on? Also, where can I get a spring compresor to fit the rear shock spring? will a regular spring compressor from autozone (rental) work??

Any replies are greatly appreciated!!
thanx,
