Ride Report - Craycraft 686
Well I finally got to pick up my 686 today. After 6 weeks from the day I dropped it off at the shop, I got to drive it out and load it up in the truck. Not bad turn around considering Falicon got alittle behind, and I had to order a crankshaft bearing, and bottom end gaskets. So it all happened pretty quick. But I did bring it home this evening, and do some run's with it.....here's the results....
So I unload the bike from the truck and turn the ignition on. I push the button a couple times and got the slightest hint of charge from the battery. So I get mad instantly and go get the battery charger...I hook it up to find that I have like 2 volts on my battery. I guess six weeks in the garage will drain the battery. So I charge the battery and hit the starter...she fires right up. I was very surprised at how easy it was to start(note: my mechanic already had it started and primed the oil pump and everything). I let it idle for a few seconds and then rev on it alittle to keep the rpm's above 3K like the cam break in states. After letting the side cases get warm I take off and instantly I can tell I'm on a new machine. I mean just through the lower rpms, you can tell this thing has some giddy-up. So I hit the pavement and jump up to 1/2 throttle and go through the gears. I am very surprised to find no dead spots on the power range at all. After mild riding and going through the gears on flat ground I bring it back home and let it cool down. I clean the entire bike, install all the GYT-R and Alba goodies and look her over.
Instantly I remember I need to check the jetting, so I pull the spark plug and it's alittle lean for my taste. The plug was a light tan color...I usually try to get alittle darker rust color then tan. So I will have to tinker with that tomorrow. So I then I go over some of the nut's and bolts on the bike and make sure everything is tight. I put the plug back in, and the bike starts easy. I put it up in the building for the night and now I'm on here.
I did however get some pic's taken, and as soon as I get them developed I will get them up for everyone to view. Because this is one beautiful Raptor. I think everyone will be surprised at how well it turned out. But back to the general ride report....the motor felt tight. Very tight. Of course everything in the damn thing is new. LOL. But it did start to loosen up as I was going along on my short ride. Hopefully I can get a tank or two of gas through it this weekend, and change the oil monday...adjust the valves, and then get a better ride report for you all. But considering I never went over 1/2 throttle(and if I did it wasn't much farther), it all feels good. It's like night and day in comparison to a piped Raptor. The throttle response, low end, and entire mid range is awesome. I definetly don't have any regrett's with anything. I must say a JTM Extension is a must. It keeps the nose of my Raptor planeted, and it will definetly help out in the drag's. So that is a nother piece of equipment that every Raptor owner should look into. I hope I can get a better report in the next few days after some more break in. But to this point...this thing is incredible. I defintely have to say thank you to Bob Craycraft for building another great machine....they are definetly the worlds fastest Raptors for a reason.

I will get a better ride report Monday-Tuesday after I change the oil and adjust the valves. I think break in will be complete by then, and I will not hesitate to open it up. LOL. Right now I'm treading water on how hard I run it. This is just a preview because I have not really came in on it yet. But I think you guys will love the pic's. Alright....truth be told......
I'm pusing 41.5hp!
LoL. It's pretty quick trailrider. I haven't gotten to open up the FCR's yet, but around Monday or Tuesday I will. I'm going to try and get 2 tanks of gas through it this weekend. I'll keep everyone updated.
