Default Re-jet, where to start.

After installing my K&N Filter I am having problems starting the bike without the choke. I did a quick plug check and see that the plug is real white around 1/4 throttle. I am going to try going up on the pilot but need a good starting point. Right now I am running a 240 main, needle on the 2nd clip, 32.5 pilot, and the screw like 3-4 turns out. . . Also, where should I start with the main jet? I was thinking around 280. . . does that sound about right?

Well..I think your heading in the right direction with the pilot....My rule of thumb is if you have to have the air screws more than 2 1/2 open...then you need to go with a larger pilot....I think I would move the needle to the 3rd clip as well.

280 seems a tad high on the main jet...open airbox might work out to about 2 jet sizes...so a 260 will probably be enough.

Just some ideas...good luck.

You said you were at a 32.5 right now?

I have found that for every size you go up on the pilot...it equates to about a full turn on the air screw.....So your looking to get that air screw at around 1 1/2 to 2 turns out....so I would think you should get the next two pilot sizes and try them....most likely ending up with the larger of the two.

Pilots increase by .5 right?
So I should get a 33 and 33.5.

well...that's where it can get tricky...I think the pilots are 1/2 size incriments..You should be ok with the 33 and 33.5....but I hate to say so for sure....I don't want to be the one telling you to waste money. IF you were closer...I would have you over for a day and we would get that thing running sweet.

Yea, if i was closer!
Im not worried about wasting my money. I have no problem buying a bunch of different jets amd only end up using one of them. I'll get a few different sizes, maybe around a 33,33.5, and even a 34. I'll pick up some mains as well, probably a 260,270,280 and see where that gets me.

Thanks for the help,

Junior
