Default new raptor carb options

I managed to break the starter choke off into the carb on my raptor (see a previous post). Just tore down the top half of my bike and removed the carbs. I tried drilling a tap into it...broke. So it looks like a new carb setup in in order. I have a buddy that says he may know someone who has a used unit for sale. I fear the possibilities of this carb being jetted for a pipe or tweaked or simply busted. I'm thinking of going Edelbrock or other aftermarket possibilties. I would like a unit that is bolt-on-and-go. I am relatively inexperienced at motorcycle tweaking and this Raptor is my first bike. But i'm damn good with a wrench. Raptor has the stock pipe and i'm not planning on buying one with this heavy expence. Any advice on this situation?

sixsixt, I appreciate your reply but no, I'd rather buy new. I think I may get the Edelbrock unit.

If you do clean up the manifold. Check out the pics on my page. The way the manifold comes is little scabby IMO.

Isn't the edelbrock pretty hard to tune and have minimal performance gains? If you are going spend the cash, might as well get some FCR's, or look into lectron. I have a set of stock carbs just sitting around if you are interested, I also replaced my choke plunger just before I took them off if you just want that.

The Lectron unit looks hard to tune and the company website is low budget so I wonder about the product. The FCR unit is 1000 bones! I can get the edelbrock and a pipe for that. I'm not looking for big HP gains, the stock rappy is more than fast enough for me. However, since new stock Mikuni's are $500 and the Edelbrock kit can be had for $500...hmm

Lectron has been around for 25 years at least and the Edelbrock is based on the Lectron. They are both tuned the same way.

You are wasting your time going with an aftermarket carb if you do not have any motor work. And your DEFINATELY wasting money if your wanting an aftermarket carb just so you wont have to set it up. No matter what carb you go with there will be setup involved. Don't be scared, and definately SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY!! Heck worst case scenario, buy a used set of carbs and take it to a local shop and have them set it up for you!

In case I haven't made myself clear hear, Your just pissing away money if your only buying an aftermarket carb so you won't have to rejet, because you will have to rejet ANY aftermarket carb.

Hope this clears up some of your questions. blabla

lectron is comparable to edelbrock but there are no lectron kits, so you would have to have someone make you an airbox adapter and a manifold. edelbrock is easier to adjust than stock, it can be hard to dial in an edelbrock thou. for your situation i would reccomend an edelbrock or a set of stock carbs from ebay. fcrs are for modded motors, and lectron is typically used for alcohol.
