Default Rear Axle Question. Problem

I would just replace them.

Be sure to heat up you carrier for easier release/install of the bearings. (i let mine sit on top of the kerosene heater for 5 minutes or so)(they just about fell out)

Also, be sure to inspect the carrier for any damage where it may have come in contact with swingarm as it was spinning. (I had to re-chamfer the edges of the carrier,,,so I could get the old bearings out.

Buy new seals also.

Be sure to loosen the (2) set screws on the axle nut.

That much movement can only be because the bearings are toast or, worst case, the carrier is damaged. Take the axle out and see what's up. Good thing bearings are not too expensive.

I got tired of that and just purchased me an aftermarket billet nut for 40.00 and never have to torque it again.

Yeah i would get into that rear end as soon as possible and get those bearings taken care of. If you let them go its could get very costly. A guy i ride with has a 400ex and he didnt replace the bearings when they went out, I just sold him an axle carrier yesterday that was somewhere around 300 bucks. It doesnt take long for bad bearings to eat up aluminum

Well I decided I am just going to buy that Extended Swing Arm I have been wanting for a while. I have to have this thing back together and working in less then a week. So at this I don't have much time to waste. As you guys shed more and more light on it I do believe that the carrier is already toast. Last time I was out I found a piece of aluminum jammed between the sprocket hanger and the bearings. As though a very small piece of metal it causes great concern.
