Default Does weight make a big difference?

Me and my bud both have completely stock Z's(for now), and I have about ten more years experience than him but I weigh about 35 pounds more. We raced about 20 times and switched quads, every time I would be on his rear wheels to a quad lenght behind him. Does weight really make that much difference?

Even if I get the hole shot he still pulls through the gears faster.

Yes weight makes a big difference. 100lb less rider on my bike makes 2-3 bike lengths in difference on dirt and more difference in the sand.

My weight on take off helps holeshot but the extra weight kills me through the gears.

Yeah, wieght makes a big difference. My brother has a 400ex its piped jetted and he has a k&n. We have raced a lot of times. Usually I hang right up with him. But, he is around 215lbs and 6'2". And then I am 135 and 5'9". My atv wieghs around 60lbs less than his. If you do the math thats like a 140lbs difference.

in a car rule of thumb is 100lbs is .1 of a second. Now your on a 400lb quad. Answer: you bet it does.

Oh yeah it makes a difference! I have a 250R with motor work but it still doesn't have as much power as a piped and jetted YFZ. However, my bike weighs about 30+ pounds (aluminum parts) less than a YFZ plus I only weigh 150 pounds and 4 out 5 times I will beat my friend on his Yammi.
