I am looking to buy a new quad and I am trying to find out what mechanical differences there are between the 2001 an buying a new 2004 Raptor? Is the hp rating the same? Frame? Shocks? Thanks!

 

The differences Between the 2001 and newer Raptors that I know of are, Updated Transmision, Stronger rear axle, and The 04 have a new one way setup.
Alot of people have had Tranny problems with the 01's, I haven't had any yet but if I were you I would steer clear of the 01 because of this problem.

 

They also changed the rear shock to a piggyback from a remote reservoir.

 

i belive 2001 was the only year with an aluminum subframe?

The only other difference I heard of is that if it is a California Raptor, it has less h.p. than one out of another state because of their air quality restrictions.Just a thought....Mine happens to be out of Canada....(Idon't know if that means anything except that my quad hates the desert heat)[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

So, even if I can get it cheap I should not get it? I would think I could throw a pipe on it, jet it, and it already has a K&N and it would be faster. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img] I think it is a California Quad also. Damn.
