Sounds like you got it running better now. The clutch I would say should have been replaced along with the clutch springs when going to a 686 kit. I know many people told me to do that at the same time. Wait tell you get it dialed in and broke in, you will see it get faster every ride.

Take care and RIDE SAFE!!!!

It is MOST DEFINATELY your clutch, that delay you are feeling, is it slipping. Its happening mostly in 2nd to 3rd gear shifts, because thats most likely where your rap is making the most power....therefore its slipping the most. It is most likely doing it in other gears also, only its not bad enough for you to feel it. If you let it go any longer it will start screeching....not a good sign...

It is good to hear that you have everything for the most part squared away....

good luck on the jetting, try to get that plug a dark tanish color, i have actually heard, and it has supposedly been proven that raptors with an aftermarket filter, pipe, and jetting....prefer to run rich, they make more power then they do lean....but of course not to the point of it loading up.

I hope this helps, and wanna wish u the best of luck when u go riding at st anthonys, hopefully all will be good.

So therfore would the suggestion be to go and get a heavy duty clutch and clutch springs/? how much do these run and are they easy to install yourself?? anyone got any information on installing a clutch is it more worth it ot have the shop do it?? would this increase my acceleration also?? maybe thats been my problem..

Switch bikes and see who goes faster then. Maybe it's a difference in how you both ride.

Your problem most certainly sounds like your clutch, but if ur dead set on lettin the dealer do all ur work, ur gonna be charged out the@ss...
several places carry heavy duty clutch kits... Most GYT Parts are at a Yamaha Set Price...meaning there is never much discount.
yamaha-motor.com..is an example of the parts that you need....
1.GYT-R Clutch Kit- 110.00...your local dealer will be able to get you this.
2.GYT-R Billet Clutch Pressure Plate - 150.00 which is worth it because its Hinson Built, which is a really good BULLET PROOF Clutch Manufacturer. Additional oil passages help improve clutch performance and also contribute a 30% weight reduction and less rotational mass for improved acceleration.
3.GYT-R Billet Clutch Basket - 200.00 This clutch basket provides amazing race-proven durability.

All of which your dealer can get for you. But should you choose to get them yourself here is a few online vendors that sell clutch/plate/basket parts....

RockyMountainATV.com...has one made by EBC..for 89.99 they are usually pretty good, it is the clutch kit.

AlbaAction.com has all of the GYT-R parts as well, again same prices though, and i dont think they have the kit, they have the pressure plates, and the basket...but these are prolly unnecessary for you, unless yours are also worn out, and since you have a built motor, its always advisable to get heavy duty... UR Decision.

The choice is really yours as to where to get the parts...you can prolly get them from your dealer. I would take these prices with you when you go though, that way if you dealer tells you its 1000 LOL or so dollars more, you can tell them to get bent!

As to doing the work yourself...its relatively easy....when you get the parts, there are instructions with the clutch kit itself, and the pressure plates, and the basket....the only thing is, is that like the 3rd step they refer you to the actual yamaha raptor manual...So its a good idea to have the Clymer Manual at hand...or else it could be a problem...install takes just over an hour and a half...but its step by step detailed instructions. Should be no problem...and it will definately save you around 200 dollars. The dealer will mark it up as 2 hours or so at over 80 bux an hour LOL!

Hope this helps,

How come you totally avoided seeing what your plug looked like and, telling it to us? Even though your bike is running better it still maybe lean. the only true way to tell if a bikes jetting is close is the plug unless your a "Supertuner" and can tell by performance in the rev ranges.

I'f i were you i'd do a little riding and, pull the plug to check your jetting. Better yet put a new plug in it (properly gapped) and, check it after a good ride. Your original plug has been through some different jetting now and, may not read perfect.

NO WAY I'd trust the fact that it is running better to mean it is right!!!!
