cause quads are that much better, safer, & the demand is higher for quads. there may be another reason which I dont know

They stopped making them because the government made them. Everybody went sue crazy so they made some kind of law to prevent them from ever being manufactored again. It didn't have anything to do with a quad being better than a trike. I have an 85 250R that gives plenty of the new quads a hard time and it is 19 years old.

I have a 85 250R also and still love it. Nothing dunes like it in the tight stuff.

In 1987 The CSPC determined that there were too many injuries resulting from 3-wheeler wrecks. The original course of action was they wanted a recall of all ATC's that had been manufactured to date. The Companies ( Honda, Yamaha, etc ) Formed a Consent Decree that would cease the Production of 3-wheelers all together, and there were also some Guidlines that were added to quads at the same time ( although i cannot remember what there are). This made the CSPC happy at the time. Now they are saying that 4-wheelers are just as dangerous as the 3-wheelers were ( interesting isnt it? ). The Consent Decree however expired in 1998 so if the compaines so desired they could produce (and for a short time) sell a brand new 3-wheeler.
