Default Dragging noise on back of Banshee

I checked the brakes that night and they seemed ok...

I drove it today on my lunch hour and nothing happened?

My girls father is a mechanic and had a look and said it could possibly be the chain because it was solid dry.

Is this a possibility? If so, can I use his motorcycle chain lube, or is a special kind needed being I ride on a dirt road?

Thanks guys.

You can use any Chain lube. I'd hit it w/ 3&1 Oil first if it is that dry. Ride it around a bit and, see if the 3&1 loosens it up. If so wipe off excess 3&1 and, put on one of the Motorcycle Chain lubes. Make sure the chain is not to tight!!!!

Alright...does it make sense that the sound could be coming from there?

The sound seems to be coming more from the right side where the bearings could be, but none the less I am sure they both need lubing.

What kind of grease do I need for the bearings?

Any lithium based grease will work for the bearings.....And yes, I dry chain will make all kinds of noise. Check to make sure your chain rollers are spinning free as well.

Alright, tried to drive the thing last night and same sound...this time from both sides.

So I ordered some bearings from vbx.com versus going to my local Yamaha dealer and getting raped.

The bearings I ordered turn freely up to 11,000 RPM and are pre-greased and are meant for racing.

Hopefully this does the trick.

Check the rear skid too make sure it's not rubbing the rotor or rear sprocket. The stocker is weak and bends easily.

If that was happening wouldnt it do it all the time though?

Reason I am asking is because this scrubbing noise only happens maybe an hr after your riding...like when everything gets hot.
