Earlier today I had a chance to ride with a friend of my that has a 450r on my KTM. First of all I've ridden with him on my Raptor & my bike would slowly pull away. This KTM is a beast...I mean a beast!!!!! He could take out about five quads ahead of me and I would reel him in with a blip of the throttle. I love my Raptor, but this is how off-road life should be. Arm ripping, gorilla grunt, cheetah speed, with torque from a rhino. One world of advise to all atv owners...ride a KTM 525sx whenever you get a chance. I would think that the Honda & Yamaha dirtbikes should be on pair (not) with the KTM, but I can only hope that a quad comes out with this much power so until then lets go riding!!!!!! Now I'm a Jedi!!! Feeling the force....

Be warned that not all ATV's are prey.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] I've beaten every one of my buddies dirt bikes with my 727. Even my buddy's ported CR250. And that's with him having a 50 pound weight advantage over me. It's hard to beat an ATV's traction from a standing start.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

RaptorAZ, point well taken, but it's ashame that dirtbikes are so far ahead in sheer power than atvs. I mean...I paid $5500 for a brand new 04 KTM 525sx. That's the price of a 400ex!!!!! I'm talking the most bang for the buck. I have a friend that has about $11,000 in his Raptor that he can only drag with & he better let it cool off after about 3 races. Reliability comes into play whenever you mod. quads & that gets very expensive. How do you get performance without blowing up? Dirtbikes!!! Holla Back!!!

 

You pay a reputable builder a large sum to make your ATV engine bulletproof.

Bikes are not that far ahead in power. It's that they are only having to pull half the weight.

It's hard to argue with your statement about bikes being more performance for the buck. That's why all my Hot Rods are sitting right now and I'm riding my streetbikes. Right now I've got a streetbike that runs high 10's, gets 35+ MPG, and can go anywhere in the country in a momence notice. Try doing that with a car and a budget of $5500.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

yfz450 vs. yz450 about 12hp less
trx 450 vs. cbr450 15 less

Now compare to a street bike cbr600 or an R6 120hp, 660 Raptor 35-40hp? what's up with that. I love the member who put the 1000cc motor in a raptor Quads are the most under powered toys you can buy. Snowmobiles, bikes, watercraft all kill quads in hp cc for cc. Only my opinion though prior to the flaming I'm going to get.

Dirtbikes don't have anymore power than the quad counterparts do. The YFZ450 is built like the WR not the YZ, but a simple retard of the cam (just like the WR) and your right where the YZ is in power (besides that damn 10cc loss [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] ). Dirtbikes seems alot faster because they weigh half as much, power to weight is a big factor! As for the Honda, they arn't making that much less either. The only thing changed for the negative would be lower compression, it comes with a bigger carb and bore for the plus side.

Like RAPTORAZ said, I've got a few friends with piped 250's and my Rappy beats em pretty good in a drag. So not all ATV's are slower [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Bigbubb...I'm speaking of stock form for the atvs/dirtbikes. For a 660... the Raptor isn't impressive and that 's why any owner of such has to drop some cash into it for it to perform like a 660. Take a KTM525sx in stock and then switch to a Raptor....no comparison !!! The KTM will take him to school from pre-k to college!!!!
