the reality is the belt should be replaced every 1000 miles or so. it is a good belt, but it will strech over time, and you will loose top end. whenever anyone has replaced there high milage belt, they said it added more power and top end.

Snowmobiles have been using belts for years. Its a proven design and in my eyes is the best automatic transmission for off-roading.

Default Grizzly Drive belt... is there an alternative?

pwrx4d, the Dayco as it stands right now will not hold up on a Grizz. It stretches very easy and will not hold up under the extreme pressure of the 450 or the Grizz. Unfortunately until someone can redesign the belt then Yamaha has the best belt right now. They just came out with a brand new belt that is supposed to be redesigned. I bought one and I am runnning it on my 450 with no problems so far.
Redesigned belt as in how? Just stronger or made to add more power?

It is supposed to have been made with more fibers and stronger stitching. I don't know for sure but I can tell you it does come in a different package it is a silver and red package. I have not had any problems with it so far but I am not swearing by it yet. I can only relay what was told to be by a dealer who is a close friend of mine. It is supposed to be better

The numbers for the grizz belt is 1.31" to 1.18", wide, and the kodiak is 1.21 to 1.09 wide. So they wont interchange. I believe they are different lengths as well. The sheave faces need to be kept clean, so when you disassemble the case cover, check the clenliness in there. If the belt is in the width tolerance and isnt shredding, its good .

A grizz belt will not fit on any Kodiak, it is wider and longer yes. I was talking about the new belts they came out with for the Kodiaks I am not sure about the Grizz. I am not sure they are fully being distributed yet as my buddy got one at his shop and sold it to me to try out. I know that he called Yamaha and they said they were going to be sending them out but were not available in large quanities yet

My new belt for the Grizzly came in the silver and red package, maybe it's the newly designed one. I bought mine from World Of Power Sports. I wonder if there is any way to tell by the numbers on the package. Hopefully I will have time to put it on soon.

The part number is the same as the old, if yours is in a Silver and red package then it sould be the new one. The old ones were just in a clear plastic bag. Let me know if that belt works for you
