the clunk is the motor kicking back onto the one way,,,jarring it
go ahead and pull the stock one way before you go more damage
most of the 02s(and beyond) didnt use loctite on the one way bolts and they end up loosening and eventually shearing off
mine did,,,and it damaged my cam chain (one of the bolt heads got lodged)
my one way gear was fine
