Default Blaster won't idle

I just purchased an '03 Blaster. It belonged to a divorced guy who had purchased it new for his sons. He only gets to see them every other weekend and he finally sold it because it never got ridden and he hated having the payments. He could not find the manual, so I don't have one yet. It runs very strong, but will not idle no matter how much I adjust the idle screw. However, if I leave the choke on half way, it will idle. I have not owned a 2 stroke since my old '72 Yamaha AT2 125 (one of the first enduro bikes for you younger guys who are wondering what an AT2 is ). I do know that he had the throttle screw set in quite far, but this quad starts first, or second, kick every time and has plenty of power. Gas is fresh. I am somewhat stumped. Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks!

Could be a few things. Most likely, the pilot jet is plugged . Could also be the idle air screw, is out of adjustment, its different than the idle speed screw.
carb pic The air screw is #20 in this pic.

Where it has been sititng around for a while, the carb is probably a bit dirty and pluged the pilot. The choke add's extra gas, so if it will idle with the choke on, then the pilot circut must be running lean. Try turning the screw all the way in and go from there. Turing it out add's more air to the mixtrue so if it's all the way out then you might of found your problem.

The idle screw is on top of the flat unit that sits on top of the cab cap, it is a big knurled screw with a flat blade slot, give it a few slight turns and it will idle, I doubt the problem is your pilot jet or a dirty carb.

Potentpete,

I have turned the idle screw. It doesn't make any difference. Quad will still not idle.
