Default 600 Grizzly top speed low

I have a 2001 600 Grizzly with 27" 589's. I have had my speedometer up to about 58 MPH in hi range, and around 45 MPH in lo range. Since the speedometer is hooked to the tranny, and the tires are over sized, I would guess that I am probably going faster than the indicated speed. Of course that is assuming the speedometer is accurate, which it most likely isn't.
I don't know anything about a rev limiter going forward, since I have never hit one. Mine has a limiter in reverse. One of the things I have always liked about my Grizzly is that in lo range it will still go pretty fast, but still has a lot of power in the low RPM's. So I don't have to do a lot of shifting in between hi and lo range on the trail. I ride with a lot of friends who have to put it in lo range for the hard stuff, and then stop and shift it into hi range when the trail opens up for a ways. I just leave the Grizzly in lo, and go! More often then not, its my buddies that are having to keep up with me.

I have never had it happen to me, but sometimes something happens with the clutch, and it causes it not to open up completely, sorry I cant be specific but im almost positive he needs his clutch cleaned and re-greased. Has he filled the belt case with water recently?

Yes, the last trip out before the rebuild, we were in a mud/water hole that was a little too deep for the grizz, and it stalled out. Now that I think of it, we putted home that trip, and he hadn't had it out until after the rebuild. He has never had the belt casing off since owning the bike. Is there instructions somewhere on how to re-grease the clutch? I'm very familiar with the Kawi belt systems, as my bro in law has one and I do the maintenance on it, are they similar?

That's just a local spot here outside of Saint John, NB. There are quite a few holes like that, and we like to play in them for hours on end. I think that is the reason why the Kawi and Yami have belt issues!!
