Default Problem with 05 IRS Kodiak 450's

Same thing here guys. Everything but front drive shaft. Might see if I can get to them with the skidplate off and try and grease them from the bottom. Not sure if it will work, but its worth a try.

PGRSV, I've taking the skid plate off too. The grease zerk is at such an angle to where nothing can get to it. I realy think it was used to grease before being assembled. I just hope it was greased before being put together. If you think about it how often is it really put in four wheel drive during its life. I hope mine atleast got greased at the factory. What is it with Yamaha and there grease fittings? They need to fire the guy who is in charge of grease zerks.

Thanks for the info CamoKodiak. I remember a couple of weeks ago somebody said they were going to take the skid plate off and see if they can get in there, but I never heard if it worked or not. Anyway, probably just wait and see what happens.

Wonder if the dealer can lube it? Do they have a special tool? Maybe someone can ask them. I don't think waiting for it to break is the best solution

I see that the same guys are coming back here and complaining about not able to grease the front drive shaft,

this was covered earlier in this tread, yes... it can be greased !!!
get your self a needle style attachment for your grease gun.
this is not the same needle the doctor gives you shots with, this would have about 1/4" diameter shaft about 2 inch long and the very end would have a 90 degree taper to a point.
put your ATV in neutral, and roll it till the front drive shaft is in an angle where the grease zerk is most exposed and pointing toward you
use the needle point to push in the little ball located in the tip of the zerk fitting, the 90 degree taper wil seal the top of the zerk fitting. pump it full of grease,
in order to grease the other fitting you ned to roll the ATV again to line up the other grease fitting.
you will only be able to 1 fitting per side...meaning one from the left side and 1 front the right side.
it is easier if you remover or at least turn the front wheel to gain access to it. you may also want to remove the plastic shield (on the right side of your ATV) just front o the floor board. this is the cover that protects your rear brake master cylinder/ front drive shaft.

I will check back with you guys in a months or so see how you are doing, if you still complaining about the greasing issue. :-)

oh yes....
for those of you new owners that have concern with the brake squek, an poor gas milage,
once you brake it in the squeek will go away, and it will have good gas milage.

Ps: after owning a mid size honda, Polaris ATVs I still think that the kodiak is still the best in the midsize class.
and NO..... they were not designed to wheelie, this is a utility quad with automatic trans, and please lets not go into 600+cc work horse utility ATVs which was designed to haul gravel on your ranch, and the power they produce is over kill for any type of trail riding.
As far as the viboration..... yes you will have that on any single cylinder 4 stroke engine.

Zsebi I stated I have tryed the needle with no luck. I even tryed the needle on the rear drive shaft zerks as practice (as they are easy to get at) and the neeedles barely went in the zerks. Greese just shot out where I was sticking it in. So I applied a little more presure to try to put in needle furthur and the needle broke in half. I bought it from autozone. So we are past the part of trying a needle unless there is some special method or different needle to try???
It might work if the needle just had a hole at the end of it but the 90degree taper at the end is no good unless the needle goes in real far which I was unable to do???

I'd like to see a picture too. I am trying to visualize the 90 degree taper at the end. Also, if you can tell us specifically where to get it, I would appreciate it. At the rate I use mine, I won't need to worry about it for 20 years or so, but I'm printing this thread off for future reference.

Thanks!
