Problem with 05 IRS Kodiak 450's
#121
With 20 hours on my 05 , the noise seems to have all but gone away. I rode 2 hours yesterday, it squealed a tad as I took off, but once I grabbed a handful of rear brake, the noise was gone for the rest of the day, and I went thru plenty of water and got stuck once in the mud. Has anyone else put more miles/hours on their 05 and still has the brake squeal?

...yes, an idiotic design, even worse then my shaft grease fitting on my 02 Grizzly..
I don't have this quad yet, but I ,ve seen the trouble spot at the dealer some time ago...anyway, there's no doubt in my mind ,that it can be replaces with 90 degree grease fitting.....which has a removable top/90degrees/ part.
you just did not have a right zerk available...?????????????? / I know they are available with a standart thread ...I suppose this in a metric thread and availability might be questionable???!!!/

Joe - I think we're past the grease issue. The right angle fitting works fine. I got 90 deg fittings with the right threads, however I would need a washer/spacer or something because when I tightened it in, the fitting pointed in the wrong direction -inaccessible. Anyway, the grease issue isn't such a big deal. It seems most folks are concerned with the brake squeal.

I think I'm going to take mine back to my Yamaha dealer and see what they can do. Since I have to get my alignment checked anyways. I have to keep the handle bars off center to go straight. I took mine out rideing on some trails out back. There are plenty of small creaks, tons of fallen trees and tight turns. This thing performed amazingly! It was sooo smooth and very responsive. My friend has an Artic Cat 400 4X4 and he got stuck in this one mud hole. I put mine in Low 4X4 and locked the differential and this thing clawed right through no problem. I was very impressed. We also raced from a stop and the Kodiak definetly way faster right off the line. The kodiak roared and just flew. So much power. This was the first time I opened it up to see what she could do. I'm in love
Also I got the greese gun angle adapter at autozone. I tryed to put in on the zerks in the rear and it seemed to go on and I thought I had it on far enough but grease just seemed to ooze out around where I connected. How do I know if they are full..like where should the grease come out at?

Windmill, you have to push it on till it 'clicks' into place. You'll hear some crackling and see grease shoot out the back when it's full. Glad you like the machine. I do too. The seat is so soft. The power is ample, although not mindblowing. My prairie650 with mods still makes it feel pretty weak. I love it for trail riding though, it's so much easier to whip around than the big prairie.

I just past 20 hours on mine,
no brake squek today, it was wet and muddy as h*ll.
and there was no squeek when we rode it in colorado snow.
I hope it just needed braking in, just like the rest of the bike.

well took mine out for the first winterish ride, and man, went with my buddies and there polarises (how ever you say 2 ) mine fired right up, while his took a bid... but anyways... it was great fun, no problems, except i lost front brakes, due to them freezing right up... i learned.... small creek, with ice on top... water underneath.... playing in water at -20 degrees celcius isn't good for front and rear brakes good thing the engine braking is so good..... i managed to get my rear brake un-frozen... but not the fronts.... still alot of fun though.... can't wait for more snow!!

Well after taking my Kodiak into the shop and leaving with no brake noise I was happy! Now 50 miles later it's starting to come back. When I picked it up I noticed they had lossened the left hand brake lever quite a bit. I thought that It must have been to tight and was not releasing enough. Now I think it's getting dirt in the brake and rubbing. I going to talk to the shop and see what they did the first time. I bet it was just cleaned out and now it's dirty again. Other than that it been great. Last week I got it Bloodie hauling my deer out.
It sure looked cool all camo up with a big 8 point buck hanging off the back, then some girl pull up beside me and fliped me off! Just got a digital camera so will have pictures as soon as I learn all this instruction as how to download and send.

Hey Camo, too bad about the squeaking. Mine and my buddy's does it, but I don't have nearly the time or miles yours does. Hey, you ought to check out this hunting message board.... Keep us posted on what happens at the dealer.
