and NO..... they were not designed to wheelie, this is a utility quad with automatic trans, and please lets not go into 600+cc work horse utility ATVs which was designed to haul gravel on your ranch, and the power they produce is over kill for any type of trail riding.

As far as the brake squeal going away with more riding - I don't think so either. I have 500 miles or so on my kodiak and it still squealed all the way into the dealership the other day, until the cables were loosened/adjusted.

I guess you don't do any high speed trail riding, but half the time I go ride with guys on sport quads and dirtbikes, and my prairie 650 barely keeps up - forget it with the kodiak... The kodiak is a nice machine but don't act like it can do everything well..

of course there is differen scenerios,
you are right I don't ride on high speed roads or trails,
I ride on rocky, tight, steep on places, and technical, mainly was designed for dirt bikes, very narrow cut trails with lots of turns and through dense woods (cedars mostly) anything bigger than a mid size ( grizzly or your prairie) is a disadvantage. sport quads can do some trail where 4x4 is not needed.
what I am saying......even if I would put a 650 in the kodiak, it would not matter, you would not go faster. you would just throw more rocks and wear out tires faster.
you can only go so fast when there is trees and turns every 20 feet.

zsebi thanks for the link to the needle adaptor. I will try one of those. It looks a little heavier duty than the one I bought at autozone. I also ride tight trails and there is no way anything bigger than the kodiak could get through. Sure I would like more power but it is sufficent.

A few pages back someone asked about skid plates. Hebco has them for an 05 Kodiak and they look pretty good. I've been thinking of getting them for my outlander.

I have the fitting zsebi is suggesting, it works but takes some time to get the hang of it(spare set of hands can help and 18" flex hose is a must). BTW I tried dropping the skid plate it really did nothing to improve the ability to hit the front u's. Better to lift up with your winch/jack and drop one of the tires IMO.
In my case bigger was not better, the kodiak fits perfectly into my usage and I am impressed with its abilities..mind you pulling wheelie's or being first isn't much of a concern to me!

Has any one found out any more about fixing the brake squeal problem on the kodiak 450 4x4. I recently purchased one myself. I just tried putting the brake glue on the back of my pads to quiet the squeal. I have not had time to ride it in the dirt the last couple of days but it seems to have worked! I thought it works on cars, why not my quad. Called yamaha on this matter and they said they are working on it. I laughed, and told the yamaha tech you've been working on it for a year now! (lol)
He got mad and hung up! Amazing huh! I 've Looked for the answer to fixing the brake squeal in this thread, but it is huge! Can someone please tell me what reply is the answer?

Well my squeal has gone away. I now have 500 miles on it. Between 50-250 miles it was loud and anoying but after that it has quieted and since gone away. Usually I would just apply the brakes while moving to quiet it some and when washing I was blast that rear brake/tire with alot of water and that would help.
