Problem with 05 IRS Kodiak 450's
Ahhh, I wasn't knocking the Kodiak. (I had read several different posts on different threads so maybe my placement wasn't the best) It is a awesome machine and was the pick that my wife definitely wanted. My wife had been comparing these two quads for weeks. I don't know if the Kodiak 450 that my wife and I rode at the dealer was a bad one. It seemed like the transmission was bound up, holding the quad back and the suspension didn't ride like we both expected it. I know you can't tell to much in a short ride at the dealer, but we rode the Grizzly the same amount of time as the Kodiak. Down here in Mississippi the price difference between the Kodiak and Grizzly wasn't enough to sway us away from the Grizzly.
I know no one wants someone knocking on the quad they own , believe me -(I have a Raptor - and people everywhere I go that have never even ridden one tell me how it sucks)
So everybody with Kodiaks - you have the best 400-500 class quad available! Rock on!
P.S. - I wear the pants, she just tells me which ones to put on.

I'm sure you'll love the Grizz. Raptors are sweet quads too. What you experienced was definitely not the norm though with the Kodiaks - I love the transmission, it's totally smooth with no slippage. Also I love the centrifugal clutch, so you dont have to bother shifting into neutral all the time like the Prairie trans. For what it's worth the grizz and kodiak have the same trans - so you should have at that point determined something was wrong with the kod is my thought. Happy trails LERaptor!

Problem with 05 IRS Kodiak 450's
Hey kodiak owners, After taking mine swimming I've been trying to grease it. After struggling for over an hour I was finaly able to get grease to go into the zerks and ooze out the bushing on the left side. The right side no matter what angle or pressure I put on it, it just want take any grease. Is there such a thing as a bad Zerk? I've pick up one of those needle values. Do you just press it tight up against the zerk? thanks

Lightman, thanks for the reply. I was using the 90 degree angle on the grease gun. I really think the zerk isint working right. Tonight I think I'll try and push on the little ball on the zerk and see what happens. How about skidplates? Are you using the thin plastic one that came with it. I 've been searching all the sites and no one even shows a 2005 yet. Do you think there would be any differance from the 2004? Thanks again.

A 90 degree angle fitting will not work, it will never snap all the way on the zerk. A right angle fitting is different, it's straight with a slot cut out of it. I posted a link to one of them on an earlier page in this thread. I'm sure your zerks are fine.

Lightman, I misspoke. I did go to auto zone and get the right angle one. I'll try again to night . I sure would love to see some grease come out where it is soposed to. One more question. Have you adjusted your shocks any from the factory setting. Where does a person get a hold of one of those adjusting tools. I went to a yamaha shop here which isint much and they looked at me like I was crazy when I asked. I put a winch on and I think my front end needs to be beefed up. This site sure has been a great help!
