I have to wait till the weekend to get mine out for a test run with the new pads.
The squeal was very annoying. I did not baby mine either. The Grizzly does not have a rear disc. Why they put one on the Kodiak is hard to understand.
the disk brake is the best thing to have on an ATv,
drum brake must be adjusted correctly all the time to give good performance, it is less effective, harder to clean , replace or to inspect.

I had drums all around on my honda rancher , I hated it.
the drums brakes on my honda rubicon got oil on it repeatedly on a so called sealed system, and had poor braking performance because of it. I kept cleaning and cleaning then sold the machine (not because of that reason )
I'll take the disc any day over the drum , even if it squeeks.

I am begining to think that all that squeking- mambo jumbo -may have to do with that paper thin brake disk yamaha put in the back .
I hope they will come out with a recall

It really sound like the caliper is not fully releasing the pad from the rotor, and they are slightly dragging.

On my machine i got a little dirt and sand on the caliper itself, and it seems to move a little slower than usual.... it requires and extra little help to release from the rotor. Now, i took it off cleaned it up as much as i could, then put it back together, and it hasn't squeaked for a while, until it got a little dirty again.... then it seems to stick... i cleaned my pads, and there is no dirt in there, and it still seems to squeak.

Well....the new softer pads did not work....after I went through some water and sand/mud the squeal comes back...it almost sounds like the rotor is warped. Does this sound familiar to everyone else? I think I will ride thru the weekend and take it back on Monday.

I wonder if we can start a petition to Yamaha explaining the problem we all have and asking them to recall them? Mine hasn't been bad yet, but any such noise shouldn't be expected or tolerated!

Now that you guys mention it, my squeal noise started the second I crossed my first creek with the quad...
