I'd definately make the frame out of steel. There are sites that you have to pay for the ramp designs but they give pretty good pictures of their ramps so you could just mimic a picture to make a ramp from.

Plus you said you don't have much space to build up dirt, what exactly did you plan on landing on?

Default Wooden ATV Jump

I have a couple of wooden jumps right now and they seem to hold up pretty well. They are made from 1" plywood and supported by a bunch of 2x4's. I wouldnt hit it too hard tho. Its really nice to not have to worry about maintaining my dirt jumps. I would have made mine a little wider tho. I dont have that much room on either side when i take off so i have to line up just right. Its a bit different than dirt jumps. the jumps i have are only about 1.5-2 feet high tho so nothing really big...

There was this jump made at this old place we used to ride at that was built out of wood/dirt. I guess they used logs to make the jump and packed it with dirt so itd stay together and would be hitable. It was a really decent jump. Pretty tall and would get you some big air. Cept I hit it on my old 250r all the time and one time it bogged right before I hit it and I nosed dived as soon as I went off....that wasn't fun.

Build you jump with alot of supports then pack dirt under it for added support and you should be ready to go. But when building jumps, i suggest you don't do a half-@ss job

If you're using wood, I would fill it with dirt just to be safe. I used to live on 2.5 Acres and had several dirt jumps, so I don't see why you can't with 5 acres.

I've decided to build a steel ramp.

I'm going to order the plans for that web page.
Should be a fun winter project.
