Default 2003 Grizzly Starter Interlock Ideas?

Any ideas on this one? My interlock won't let me start unless in park or neutral BUT when I take off the left hand brake lever so the swith isn't depressed it will start. If I then push the switch button in manually it again won't start.
Any ideas as seems the switch is working backwards even though it used to work as designed and the switch hasn't been apart?
Can I unplug the switch somehow to bypass the interlock and if so where?
Appreciate any help or ideas out there--

Does the brake light work normal? In all three....Hand rear, hand front, foot rear?
If you use the foot operated rear brake, will it start in gear then?
What were the circumstances, when you first noticed it wasnt working? Could the switch be installed wrong?

Sorry for delayed response but have been traveling.
Yes brake lights work in all circumstances.
No you can't start it with the rear foot brake depressed.
It stopped working as normal when I was installing heated grips and I had some activity arround the left handgrip and this switch. I wondered if by chance I broke a wire but as I say it seems to work backwards when I have the brake handlever off?
I never did take the switch off so I don't think it is installed wrong.
Any other ideas?

Im not sure the switch works backwards. When the switch is free, and the spring pops the button out, there should be continuity , and when the button is depressed it should show open. Have a ohmeter?
If you unplug the switch, at the connector, .. Will it start in gear? It shouldnt.
Are you pulling the brake lever far enough? You may have to adjust the cable at the handlebars to provide enough travel. I have to pull the lever almost to the grip, to get the switch to open, on mine.

Did you get the pm?

I have an ohm meter and will check your suggestions next week when I have a chance. Your point about if the handle is depressing the switch far enough is a good one and will check that also.

The problem seems to be maybe the lever isn't releasing far enough as it will start in gear when I remove the handlever and the swith is fully extended but when I depress it even with a pencil after the level is off it won't start which seems backward to the way it would need to work as designed with the lever in place. That's why I say it seems to be working backwards?

You mention did you get the PM but not sure what this refers to?

It stands for private message, the little symbol at the top of the page, under Todays new topics.
