Banshee questions?
#1
Hey i was thinkin about gettin a new Banshee next summer.Tradin in my Warrior. I know it runs about 72mph stock or so.If i was to add just a set of aftermarket pipes and an aftermarket filter what kind of horsepower gains would i have and about what would the new top speed be?
Thanks for advice. Seriously thinkin bout gettin 1. If you have any more info it would be greatly appreciated.Kinda afraid to get a 2 stroke cuz i heard there high maintenance especially a Banshee but i luv that power!

Well, those are the only modes that I have done to my Banshee. When it was stock, I never hit top speed on it, so I really don't know if that was improved or not. The biggest difference I noticed was how much harder you accelerate. The first weekend after getting my pipes my arms and hands were killing me, cause I was hanging on so tight. I used to have a Warrior, believe me the difference between the two is like night and day (speed wise). They do require a little more TLC but I actually find it easier to work on my Banshee than my Warrior. My advice would be to make the upgrade.

Buy a banshee? The shee was designed in 87 and except for changing to dual a-arms its the exact same bike as in 87.The Raptor is all new design and I bet it will run circles around a shee. The banshee is the dinosaur here not the raptor!I cant beleive they didnt discontinue it,probably next year.High maintainence is what makes a machine LAST,2 or 4 stroke.Take care of the quad and it wont break.

Yeah it was designed back in 87 and it still can run with any quad made today and that is including the Raptor. For the money you save by buying a Banshee you can use the extra cash to modify the bike and turn it into a screamer that a Raptor can only dream about. Like Dirtwheels said, the Raptor is only 1 to 2mph faster than a stock Banshee, big deal!! So you get maybe 2mph faster for almost a $1,000 if you buy a Raptor! Wow. For a $1,000 of modifications to a Banshee you are going to gain more than 2mph easily. With the right modifications you can have the Banshee easily approaching 100 horsepower and that is way out of any fourstroke's league so if you are going to run with the big boys for pure speed the Banshee is the right choice because you can make this quad go as fast as you want. Don't get me wrong I am sure the Raptor will be a good quad but a fourstroke is way to expensive to modify and when you do modify a fourstroke you get minimal gains. 2-stroke's rule!!

Here's my thoughts
Banshee - Lot's of go fast parts and it's still the king of speed for recreational and sand riding - after mild mods like pipes. In stock form it's not a bad quad, but it's too front heavy. Maintenance is higher than a thumper, but cheaper to do, so it's really a toss up. It's very easy to make this quad extremely fast.
Raptor - Seems to be quite capable and has decent power in stock form. Probably a better overall quad than the Banshee for the average rider. Making it REALLY fast is going to be more expensive than the Banshee, but it's so good in other areas that unless you want a hill shooter, it would be a better choice.
Lastly, power is not everything. I think that we ride to have fun, and things like wheelies, rock climbing, jumping, and general playing around are not the Banshees strong points. Personally, mine beats the heck out of me when trying to go fast through whoops. I wish it felt better in rough terrain, and I wish it had better bottom end, but that's the trade off I accepted. What would really be cool is an updated 400cc power valve Banshee motor in an updated (Raptor) frame..... wonder if that's the next Banshee I've heard rumors about....???? Maybe that's why they didn't completely drop the Banshee from their 2001 line-up... hmmmmmm.

Top speed is limited by RPM, gearing and tire size. If the pipe modifcation allows the machine to rev higher then I am guessing a person may gain a few MPH at the top end.
Maintenence... Remove the stock air filter and install something decent. Keep the new air filter clean. Replace the lower unit oil reguarly. Mix your gas properly. Lube the chassis once in a while. Oh and don't leave it on full choke when warming the engine, you are likely to foul plugs that way. Doesn't sound too tough to me.
