Default Front fender

has anyone took off their front fender? i recently i have taken it off to make easier access to the exhaust so i could grind the rust off of it, but i went to go put it back on and it is very hard to line up the bolts with the holes. is this because of the cold? could i use a blowdryer to expand the plastic?

any help is appreciated.
thx
