Default 7 paddle haulers didnt work so well on my 690 today

I had asked for opinions on wheter or not 7 paddles would be enough for my 690 and at least in my case it didnt work.I put the 7 paddle haulers on the 690 today and in a 300 foot uphill sand drag i was probably 3 or 4 quad lengths slower than with the 10 paddles.I had been told that some of the fastest raptors use 7 paddles and from posts i have read that is true but the sand that they ride in must be completely different from what we have here in oregon.I found it very frustrating to line up and take off with so little forward motion but at least i already had the tires and it didnt cost anything to find out because with what i have spent so far on this 690 that would have been hard to take. This information may or may not interest you but personally i like to hear real world performance reports or in this case the lack of so hopefully someone will find this useful.

Sorry about your loss.. But im happy cause you helped me. Im headding toward dunes and i had myself set on 7-paddle tires.. i thought that there would be too much smooth rubber and from your loss it was.. im thinking the 10 paddles are best for me!!!

7 padde ultra lites 22-11-8, if not thats probabley why they dont work too good..How much do you weigh, if heveier the 200 then the 8's are best, if light then the 7 should be good..

I agree, also air pressure makes an important issue as well. I will put my 7 paddles up to any 10 paddle any day. Just give me a few runs to set the air pressure and the race is on.

1BADRAPTOR-I am 6'4" and 230 lbs so maybe that is part of the problem but my 10 paddle haulers launch so much harder than the 7 that i dont know if an 8 would help but i do have a set of 20" 8 paddle that i could try.I appreciate the input on this and i think next time i will take a stop watch and play with the pressure more and get some accurate times in on the same run for comparison.

Ive been reading and been involved in a few discussions involving paddles.....and am sure you all know by now i run 21x12x8 extremes and am thinking of trading a guy for the same size tire but an 8 paddle! i dont run hills and only run 300ft drags! i dont have anyone to try any less paddled tires around me so i think i will keep what i have also! i usually run alot of tire pressure and it seems to help! I just hate to get rid of a set of perfect paddles with some nipples left on them for something that might not work! Besides, you should see what kind of money 21x12x8 10 paddle extremes in new condition are bring on Ebay right now! 200.00+!!!

Besides air pressure you may also need to change the way you launch. Wide open 2nd gear starts and let the tires spin a little.

I agree with sixsixt...I run 7 paddles on a second gear launch at a high r.p.m. and I have no problems...I'm 210lbs. with a +4 swingarm...as a matter of fact, I have a heck of a time keeping the front end down even when I lean over the bars on the launch.
