Default Problems w/ Kodiak 450's?

Maintenance was easier on the '03 compared to the '05. The new one has some screwy greese zerks that are impossible to get to, so you have to replace the zerks with 45 degree bend greese zerks. The '05 handling and suspension are both much better than the '03. Power is the same.

Outerlimit, can you tell me more about replacing the grease zerks with those 45 degree. Where do I get them and what size do I ask
for? I tried to grease it using a 90 degree angle adapter and the right side just want take any grease. I want to change to the 45 degree angle ones and then I'll be able to grease them with out making such a mess. Thanks

I took the stock greese zerk out and took it down to Ace Hardware and matched up the size with a 45 degree zerk. Not sure what the actual size was, other than they were the same threads.

One question. I was wondering if you mentioned the greese zert issue to the sales guy at the dealer before or after the sale to see if Yamaha would replace.

Just Curious

No I didn't. Nobody knew about this until it was time for a lube. I f I had it to do over again what I would do is say, I'll buy this atv if you can show me how to lube it right here and now! I'm sure once I replace them with the bent 45 degree ones it will be fine. This machine is awsome! My buddies think I worried about nothing. They say they have ridden theres hard for over 5 years and never even greased it once. I do it cause I enjoy working on my atv and it helps me become one with my Machine....

It's done. Went to auto parts store and bought a box of metric size grease zerks and replaced the stock ones with the 45 degree ones on the bottom and used 90 degree ones on the top. It's now so easy to grease. Thanks outerlimit!

I have an 05 Kodiak and have not had any problems. The braks did squeak, but the dealer replaced front and back with softer pads. That slove the problem. Did not cost me a thing. I have had mine in mud with the front end cover and the back up to the rack and it still runs like new. I haved it in water up to the seat and still run like new. Go get one and you will have the best out there. That is just my two cents. Hope this helps. This seat is so soft you can ride for hours. The diff works great. Never had to really use my winch to get out.
