Default Glowing exhaust..

If you think is glowing because the bike is way too hot, your fan should be on also, some atv's this is normal. watch your tempature light or listen for fan. fan would be on more than normal

Default Glowing exhaust..

I posted this a while back. Seems to fit here also.

That depends on the color. Bright cherry red or salmon and your literally playing with fire!!! A piston will start to get soft at a little over 1,500F (EGT). 1,600 and over, and you done.

Faint Red 930

Blood Red 1075

Dark Cherry 1175

Medium Cherry 1275

Cherry 1375

Bright Cherry 1450

Salmon 1550

Dark Orange 1630

You make the call at what color the pipe was. I set my EGT at 1,350 to 1,400F. I have run as high as 1,500 for a few seconds at a time but I don't recomend it; especially with a light racing piston. Lean is mean, but I see no sence in pushing it.

well this seams wierd because my 450 echxaust will be bright orange when idling, but cools down some when riding and the fan is never on, and everyone swares it is normal!

I'm too lazy to read the thread, it looks full of goofy stuff anyway.

Its not uncommon for a head pipe to glow when its new. If it continues to glow a bright orange/red after a few rides, then you are probably lean on your jetting.

Default Glowing exhaust..

Update- thanks to a few members advice I messed with the air/fuel screw, while the machine was running at an idle in the dark. I waited for it to get bright red hot, and then adjusted the screw back/down a few turns. The red color started to dissapate, so I turned it all the way down to where it almost killed it. The "glowing" darn near went away totally. So I turned it back up a few times to get a good idle speed, not to much, but just enough. This seemed to reduce the glowing effect considerably. My only consensus is that it was getting to much fuel and burning it off was making the glow. Dont know exactly for sure, but it did help, and I no longer worry about it. Thanks to all!

If it was rich the left over fuel would cool the exhaust.
