Default NEED HELP WITH WHINCH

I have a superwhinch 1500 and yesterday me and my uncle went for a ride. He got his 360 prairie stuck and then dug him self in deeper. When we attachted the whinch to his quad and I started realing him in and driving back, MY WHINCH BROKE! My clip that is attached to the wire broke. I am wondering if I did anything wrong to whinch him out and what is the proper way to whinch some out?

They are really a great thing but my uncle put it on his quad the wrong way. When I get stuck I usualy tie it around a tree and attach the clip to the wire, so it snugs the tree nice and tight.

Well do you know how it has a clip on it? Well my uncle put that around a small hole in his bumper. I heard that you should put a weight of some sort on it just incase the cable snaps god forbid it jumps up and hits you.

I once went to a atv park in pennsylvania and I had to watch a video and it showed that if you are whinching you need a tree saver or sumthing like that lol if you want to whinch ur self out from a tree. Anything heavy will work so the cable doesnt hit you.

you said you went to pull him out, by driving the quad? I usually get my quad anchored against a tree stump or big rock. free-wheel the line to the stuck quad. then i use the WINCH to pull, not the quad. i loop the cable around and thru the hook. OR, you can double your winch pull by using a pulley block, which shortens the cable by half, but doubles the line pull.

a blanket draped over the cable during pull will cause snapped cable to do less damage.
