*Don't forget that sexy stock compression of 11.9:1 that we MUST "MUST" (MUST) run with a very high mix of race fuel and premium grade or just strictly race fuel (we wouldnt want to detonate her - premium fuel and octane booster wont cut it here kiddies o_O)!
We run 91 octane straight up in the YFZ, just like all our quads. No pings knocks or nothing.
I tried that 91 stuff once, it misfired and pinged like all mad after the motor was a bit on the hot side at Dumont, I'd recomend atleast 98 oct. fuel...

the reason yamaha says to run 91 min is cuz not everyone lives near a track or near a gas station wit race fuel, I've found that the best places to get 100+ oct. race fuel is close to a lake or marina. 91 will work, but it does/can cause problems down the road...

This is what I meant before - a dif. experience for everyone (that 91 doesn’t run to well sometimes does it)

Proximity to tracks and gas stations with race gas ain't got dick to do with it. I race my YFZ for 2hrs. at a time and have never had it overheat or even start to run bad and I use 93 octane.According to the latest issue of ATV action SUZUKI only requires 87 octane for the Z400.

Since everyone is going to spend the rest of their life arguing octane physics I'll go ahead and answer what I can about your question.

The 06 YFZ is rumored to be a 10cc increase in engine size over the existing model. Some will start another argument saying it's just a rumor and Yamaha has said that for a couple years now. But I believe it to be true for 06 given the timing of the annoucement by Yamaha.

Other than that I haven't heard anything.

Sounds to me like you were incorrectly jetted, if you are slightly lean then upping the octane will make it run better.

From what I have seen factory's jet them lean if anything, I never see them rich straight from the factory. Besides they want them leaner for EPA reasons.
